PARKING POLICIES

Because of the construction around Kinnick Stadium, game day parking has been changed from previous years. To learn about those changes, click HERE.

Opening Time for Lots
Selected University of Iowa parking lots open at 7:30 the night before all home games and all others open at 6:00 a.m. on the day of each home game.
*Activities in Carver-Hawkeye Arena may require an adjustment in the opening of some parking lots.

Pre-paid Parking
All season ticket customers who have access to priority parking lots as a result of their annual contribution to the National I-Club will be required to pay for their game-day parking when making their 2013 season ticket purchase; no financial transactions will take place at the entrance to priority parking lots on game days. As in previous years, only individuals with the appropriate parking placard will be allowed entry into reserved parking lots (priority parking lots) managed by the UI. A priority parking placard does not guarantee parking in a specific lot but is required for entry into parking lots adjacent to or near Kinnick Stadium.

Reason: Fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes attending the home games of the 2013 University of Iowa football team at Kinnick Stadium will have streamlined access to UI-managed parking lots as a result of the implementation of a pre-paid parking program.

Handicap Parking
Parking for persons with disabilities is available in Hospital Ramp #3. Please utilize the east entrance off of Hawkins Dr. Very limited space in the surface lot directly north of Kinnick Stadium will also be reserved.

Hawkeye Express
Passengers on the Hawkeye Express leave the driving to the Hawkeyes and ride in luxury from parking areas conveniently located minutes off Interstate 80 near Coral Ridge Mall in nearby Coralville to the southwest corner of historic Kinnick Stadium.

Parking is free and the round-trip train service costs just $12 per person with children 12 and under riding for free. Service to Kinnick Stadium - a 10-minute ride - begins 3 hours prior to kickoff. Service post-game begins at the start of the fourth quarter and continues until 90 minutes after the game.

Tickets for the Hawkeye Express may be purchased in advance at the UI Athletic Ticket Office located at the north entrance of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tickets will also be available for purchase on game-day upon arrival at the Hawkeye Express depot. All sales of tickets at the Hawkeye Express depot are cash only. Fans can also trade one pre-paid parking pass for two Hawkeye Express tickets.

The Hawkeye Express is not wheelchair accessible. On game days, patrons with disabilities restricting their mobility are invited to use the parking spaces reserved in Hospital Ramp #2 and limited space in the lot directly north of Kinnick Stadium.

Speakers that can stand alone or are connected to an amplifier are prohibited. Small "boom boxes" are permitted but the sound cannot extend past your tailgate area. Live musical bands are not allowed at tailgating sites.

Alcohol Policy
Policy: Tailgating that includes the responsible and lawful use of alcohol is permitted within the parameters determined by law and University rules and protocols.

Fans tailgating the night immediately prior to game day on public property are reminded that the possession of an open container of beer, wine or consumption of hard liquor is prohibited by law. Law enforcement officers will ask fans to empty the container or issue a citation.

On football game days only, beer and wine are allowed in UI parking areas. Patrons and ticket holders are advised that state law prohibits hard liquor consumption of possession of an opened bottle of hard liquor on public property, which includes university parking lots and ramps. Beer trucks, kegs, open bars and people in possession of exorbitant amounts of alcohol will not be permitted in any UI parking area including parking ramps. Violators will be asked to leave University property immediately.

Anyone in possession of an open container (including beer, wine and hard liquor) while walking/driving to University property on the public sidewalks and roads will be issued a citation and the beverage will be confiscated.

For games starting at 11:00 a.m., consumption of alcoholic beverages must cease two hours after game. All tailgating activities in University owned parking lots and ramps must end three hours after an 11:00 a.m. game. For games that begin at 2:30 p.m., consumption of alcoholic beverages must cease one hour after the game and all tailgating activities in University owned parking lots and ramps must end two hours after games that start in the afternoon. Post-game tailgating will not be permitted at all for games that start in the evening (6:00 p.m. or later). During the final hour of the post-game tailgating, fans will be asked to pack up tents, tables, chairs, grills, etc. and begin to make their exit from University parking lots and ramps. Post-game alcohol and tailgate compliance will be enforced by UI officials. The exception to this policy is that RV owners will be allowed to spend the night, however, tailgating activities will not be permitted past the designated time.

Balloons, Blimps or Other Inflatables
Policy: Inflatables such as balloons and blimps are prohibited from being flown or tethered from vehicles parked in the lots.

Security and Safety
Policy: It is the responsibility of each fan to secure tailgate items prior to entering the stadium. Fans should lock food, beverages and valuables out of sight in vehicles; extinguish all fires or flames; unplug all electrical outlets; secure barbeque pits, chairs, and ice chests; and store alcoholic beverages in locked containers.

Reason: The University of Iowa cannot ensure the security of tailgate areas.

Tents
Policy: Tents, tarps or canopies are not permitted if they impede foot or vehicular traffic or if they extend into additional parking space. Violators of this policy will be asked to dismantle the tent, tarp, or canopy.

Reason: There are a limited number of parking spaces on the University of Iowa campus for the 70,000 fans that attend games. It is important to make every space available for parking. They can also cause tailgate parties to overflow into travel lanes causing a hazard for other vehicles and the passage of emergency vehicles.
