The University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites applications for the position of Athletics Academic Coordinator/Advisor.

Responsibilities: Monitor the academic progress and assist with the academic, social and career development of student athletes in cooperation with other University support offices, provide academic and career counseling to student athletes, communicate students' academic progress to coaches and athletics administrators, teach student transition seminar, develop and conduct educational and life skills programs, and serve as liaison to academic departments.

Required qualifications: Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; some (6 months - 1 year) experience working directly with undergraduate student-athletes in an academic setting; demonstrated success in the planning and implementation of Life Skills and retention programs for Division I student-athletes; experience in working with a culturally and ethnically diverse student-athlete population; and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: Minimum of six months to one year experience advising and counseling student-athletes in a Division I academic support program for student athletes is highly desirable, two to three years experience preferred; demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Preference will be given to the candidates that can best meet the student development needs of the Athletics Student Services and Compliance program.

Salary $34,100 to commensurate. Starting date: August 1, 2008 or negotiable.
