As we count down the end of the University of Iowa athletic year, you can't under-appreciate what the Hawkeyes did with a young baseball team. After a terrific finish, Iowa will have a ton of momentum heading into the offseason.

    Purdue comes to town for a crucial three-game series against the University of Iowa in baseball. Only the top six teams qualify for the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. The Hawkeye men's golf team is competing at the regional golf tournament hosted by Notre Dame on the Warren Golf Course.

    Bob has never seen such an evenly-matched Big Ten baseball race. The University of Iowa is getting good pitching and timely hitting and play no more league games on the road. UI softball closes the regular season against Michigan and the men's golf team is one of the great turnarounds in Iowa sports.

    Hard luck has been with the Iowa softball team lately, but the Hawkeyes look to win two at Minnesota this weekend. The UI baseball team travels to Penn State and pitcher Jarred Hippen has been outstanding. In men's golf, the Hawkeyes placed second in the Big Ten.

    March Madness didn't occur for the University of Iowa men's basketball team in Indianapolis, but the Hawkeyes still put forth a gutsy effort during a seven-point loss to Michigan in the Big Ten Conference tournament. The UI women's basketball team will find out Monday when and where they will go dancing in the NCAA tournament. The Brooks Brothers also talk wrestling and baseball.

    After a 1-6 start in Big Ten Conference play, an interesting story is developing with head coach Lisa Bluder and the University of Iowa women's basketball team. The young Hawkeyes are a team that could win the league tournament. In baseball, head coach Jack Dahm is pumped up by his team.

    The change of seasons is at hand. For the softball Hawkeyes, the first 26 games will be on the road, beginning Friday, Feb. 12, against Arkansas in the Metrodome. The UI baseball program will host a steak fry on Monday, Feb. 15, in Tiffin. The basketball Hawkeyes are making moves as well.

    It is another solid signing class for the University of Iowa football team and in the 24/7 world of recruiting, it won't be long before the UI coaches are on to the 2011 class. All 21 of the incoming players are multi-sport athletes in high school.

    There's a lot for the University of Iowa men's basketball team to build upon as it heads to Michigan on Jan. 30. Every time the Hawkeyes play, they have a chance to knock someone off. It will also be a busy weekend in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

    It will be a great time in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 27, when the Hawkeye men's basketball team hosts Ohio State with a 7:35 p.m. tipoff. Iowa has improved and developed as a team and it shows. The game will also have a FedEx Orange Bowl flavor, with Adrian Clayborn and other Hawkeye players on hand.

    It was a wonderful night in Land Shark Stadium as the No. 7 University of Iowa football team defeated Georgia Tech to win the FedEx Orange Bowl. The Hawkeyes created memories that will last a long time and in the process raised the bar for a very bright 2010.

    It's been an interesting couple weeks for the postseason football bowl committees. If Texas takes care of business against Nebraska on Saturday, it appears the Fiesta Bowl will have its pick of the Hawkeyes or Penn State. As UI head coach Kirk Ferentz said earlier in the week, `there are no bad bowls.'

    The first team to 20 points could walk out of Spartan Stadium with a football victory tomorrow in East Lansing, Mich. The University of Iowa is off to a 7-0 start and Michigan State has won its last three. Defense wins championships and you can throw special teams in there as well. This is the time of year when Kirk Ferentz offenses get more offensive.

    It's the Badger Homecoming game and it is always a great football contest when the University of Iowa travels to Madison, Wis. The teams have similar records, both survived close nonconference games and both like to run the football.

    It is Iowa and Michigan in the grand old Hawkeye Homecoming game. Any time Iowa can gain a victory over Michigan, it's a big deal. There's a lot riding on this game: it will be a great atmosphere, it will take a great effort and the hammer belongs to the Hawks.

    Bob & Rob recap a great Hawkeye football victory at Penn State on Sept. 26. In that game Iowa showed its strength on the offensive and defensive lines and the Hawkeyes appear to be a team starting to make significant strides.

    It is an intriguing football match-up when a team from the desert flies into Kinnick Stadium on Sept. 19. Former University of Iowa All-American Mike Stoops, now a head coach, brings the University of Arizona to town. The Wildcats lead the Pacific-10 Conference and are fifth in the nation in rushing yards per game (305.5).

    It's Iowa-Iowa State week and it promises to be an important and interesting football game at Jack Trice Stadium. The Cyclones feature a team that is difficult to cover with a spread, no-huddle offense. As with any in-state event, expect a high-energy battle.

    It will be great to have former football coach Hayden Fry back to Iowa City for Fry fest. The RV's are rolling into town to catch a glimpse of native-Iowa running backs Paki O'Meara, Adam Robinson and Brandon Wegher. They will also watch the Hawkeye offensive and defensive lines, which the Brooks Brothers call outstanding.
