Victories in head-to-head competition against your arch rival never come easy. However, Iowa's decisive 89-80 victory over Iowa State Wednesday night in the annual grudge match between the two school's women's basketball programs gives the Hawkeyes a chance to take a commanding lead in the new Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series.

Teams from the two universities will square off head-to-head three more times in the next nine days. All three events are worth two points each to the winner in the Series scoring and all three events will be staged on the University of Iowa campus.

The action between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones continues on Saturday when Coach Marc Long's Iowa women's swimming and diving team entertains the Cyclones at 1 p.m. in the UI Fieldhouse pool.

On Sunday, the focus returns to Carver-Hawkeye Arena when Coach Jim Zalesky's nationally ranked Iowa wrestling team entertains the Cyclones at 6 p.m. That event will be televised live by Iowa Public Television and, for out-of-state fans of the Hawkeyes or Cyclones, webcast live on hawkeyesports.com, the official world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes. KXIC-AM Iowa City will also provide live radio coverage of the event.

On Friday, Dec. 10, Iowa and Iowa State return to the hardcourt of Carver-Hawkeye Arena for this year's contest between the two school's men's basketball teams. College basketball fans across the state will get a chance to watch that event live on ESPN Plus affiliates in Iowa. That game will also be broadast live by the Hawkeye Radio Network.

The swimming and diving event is free of charge to the public. Tickets are available for both the wrestling and men's basketball events.
