So long... Farewell...
No. It's not the soundtrack to the movie classic, "The Sound of Music." Instead, it's the theme behind a special event that's carrying the name, "Herky on Ice: A Frozen Farewell."
Scheduled for Monday, Dec. 13, on the ice rink at Coral Ridge Mall, up to 88 of the 90 Herkys who starred in this year's smashing public art hit, Herky on Parade, will be available for admiration, hugs, smiles, photographs and more by the general public one final time before a portion of the lovable artistically-modified mascots of the University of Iowa's intercollegiate athletics program go up for auction.

The Herkys will be on display from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $3 with proceeds benefiting the Iowa Children's Museum.
"It's been a tremendous, tremendous run, enjoyed by thousands of friends and fans of the University of Iowa, the Iowa Hawkeyes and public art. The Herkys have entertained young and old, native and neighbor, and visitors from as near as Waterloo and Des Moines, and as far as Chicago, New York, Denver and Dallas," said Josh Schamberger, president of the Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"All good things do have to come to an end and, so, too, does Herky on Parade. However, while we're disappointed about the Parade ending, we're excited about the opportunity for its fans and the opportunity for the Iowa Children's Museum to be a beneficiary of their love and admiration," he added.
Schamberger said fans of the Parade participating in the farewell will also have an opportunity to purchase official Herky on Parade merchandise and that some of the items - like the official Herky on Parade poster - will be available at special one-day prices. The merchandise list will also include a limited number of the 8-inch collectibles, "Throwback Herky" and "Hayden Herky."
"The Throwback Herkys that will be available at the Farewell are the last available for public purchase," said Rick Klatt, associate athletic director at the UI. Klatt also said there will be a limited number of never before released 4-inch Throwback Herky collectibles available.
Friends of Herky on Parade interested in owning a Herky of their very own can still reserve a position at the Herky on Parade Auction scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16, at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame. Approximately 25 of the Herkys will be available for purchase that night. A portion of the proceeds of that event will be shared with the Johnson County Cultural Alliance and the Children's Hospital of Iowa.
