Doug West
Doug West

Doug West is Associate Director of Athletic Training at the University of Iowa. Also, he is an Assistant Professor at Iowa.

West has been at the University of Iowa since 2004 and is responsible for the Recreation Building and Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center Athletic Training rooms. He is also responsible for eight teams at Iowa.

West has served as president of the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society since 2002. He is also the chair of the District V Mid-American Athletic Trainers' Association Symposium. West is also chair of the Honors and Awards Committee and a member of the Legislative Committee for the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Society.

West also served as an Assistant Professor and Athletic Trainer at Central College from 2003-04.

West received his B.A. in biology, physical education and secondary education from Coe College in 1992. West attended graduate school at Western Michigan and received his masters in physical education and athletic training in 1994. He also has a doctorate in athletic administration and athletic training from the University of Iowa.

In 2005, West was recognized by the University of Northern Iowa as recipient of the Athletic Training Service Award in Recognition of Diligent and Tireless Efforts to Improve Athletic Training Education. He was also one of five finalists for "Teacher of the Year" at St. Ambrose University in 2003.

West is associated with many professional associations, including National Athletic Trainers' Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the Iowa Athletic Trainers' Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. He is on the CIE education council and is a qualified examiner for NATABOC.
