The existing press box is located on the west side of the stadium. It has been in place since 1955 and has been expanded to the extent possible and within the limits created by the original structure. The resultant structure suffers from awkward elevation changes within the floors of the structure and ceiling heights that are below comfortable standards. Heating, cooling, and plumbing systems remain original to the structure and are not designed to support year-long operation. Only one elevator serves the entire press box, resulting in overloaded and inconvenient access to and egress from the structure for supporters and friends of the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Athletic Department.

To support the costs necessary for the replacement of the press box and all other components related to the remodeling of Kinnick Stadium, the design of the new structure must create premium seating for which there is a demand. Additionally, while not revenue generating, the current press areas of the press box fall short of basic and typical needs for local and national print and broadcast media that cover the football games.

Scope of work

Demolition and replacement of the press box structure

Construction of premium seating, based on data collected through market studies:

• Suites
• Indoor club seats
• Outdoor club seats
• Indoor club space to support preferred seating on game days for scheduled non-game-day events

Construction of code-required stair and elevator towers serving the entire press box

Inclusion of mechanical systems that will provide for year-long use of the press box facility

Construction of print and broadcast media areas

Construction of ground level entry vestibules and service area
