5 Hawkeyes Advance at ITA Regionals

STILLWATER, Okla. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team saw student-athletes advance in singles and doubles play today at the ITA Regional Championships at the Greenwood Tennis Center. 
 
Junior Nils Hallestrand beat Big Ten foe Josip Krstanovic of Minnesota, 7-6, 6-2.
 
Freshmen Jason Kerst and sophomore Jonas Larsen both defeated their opponents in straight sets as well. Kerst took down Mason Bridegan of Oklahoma, 6-4, 6-4, making his fall record, 6-2, while Larsen won, 6-0, 6-1, over Luke Moorehead of the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
 
Robin Haden, a senior on the Hawkeye squad, won 6-7, 6-1, 6-2, over Tulsa’s Mitchell Pritchard. Junior Josh Silverstein advanced on a bye. He will play Kenneth Boykin of Oregon on Friday.
 
In doubles, all three Hawkeye teams beat their first round opponents.
 
Haden teamed with junior Jake Jacoby to win, 8-0, over Krstanovic/Lynn of Minnesota. In second round play, the duo beat Herndon/Robles of Arkansas, 8-1.
 
Silverstein paired with redshirt freshman Kareem Allaf for an 8-0 shutout over Nebraska’s Dean/Meyer. Tulsa’s Pritchard/Gordon fell, 8-5, to the Hawkeye duo in the second round.
 
Kerst and Hallestrand beat Chalstorm/Glazer of Creighton, 8-2.
 
Jacoby, Allaf, and sophomore Tony Leto lost their respective opening round singles matches Thursday.
 
Action continues Friday at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University.
