SAN DIEGO — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team defeated the Harvard Crimson, 4-2, in first round of action at the SDSU/USD Invite on the campus of San Diego State. The win improves the Hawkeyes’ overall record to 10-4.
 
Iowa was victorious in four of the six singles matches, led by a trio of juniors who swept their singles matches to pace the Hawkeyes.
 
Jake Jacoby improved to 9-3 on the season as the first Hawkeye off the court with a six-spot victory over Grant Solomon, 6-3, 6-1.
 
In the top spot, Lefteris Theodorou finished shortly after Jacoby to put the Hawkeyes up, 2-1, over the Crimson. Theodorou finished off Sebastian Beltrame, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Josh Silverstein notched his second win in the two spot this season. The Great Neck, New York, native took down Kenny Tao, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Sophomore Jonas Larsen moved to double-digit wins at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Andy Zhou.
 
Iowa lost the doubles point to start the match, but the doubles team of Theodorou and Silverstein took down the 40th-ranked duo of Brian Yeung and Tao of Harvard, 6-4.
 
The Hawkeyes will return to action on Friday to challenge No. 25 Oregon at 10 a.m. (PT).
