IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa associate head coach Michaela Franklin is leaving the Hawkeye volleyball program to become head coach at Clemson University, UI head coach Bond Shymansky announced Friday.
“Michaela has been an integral part of our mission and her impact will last as a pillar of the building of our program,” said Shymansky. “We all wish her great success in her new head coaching position”
Franklin has been Iowa’s recruiting and defensive coordinator since joining the program in 2014. In 2016, her third and final season on the sideline, Franklin helped guide Iowa to a 19-13 overall record and a 9-11 mark in the Big Ten. The 19 wins were the most by the program since 1994.
“I am thrilled with the opportunity to lead the Clemson volleyball program,” said Franklin. “Thank you to Bond Shymansky and the entire Iowa community for their continued support and for allowing me to grow and develop during my time at Iowa. Iowa truly is a special place to have been a part of.”
