THIS WEEK 
The University of Iowa track and field team returns to competition following a week off. The team splits up for the first time this outdoor season, traveling to the Florida Relays (March 30-April 1), the Stanford Invitational (March 31), and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival (March 31). The distance team will head to California for two meets. The first event at the Stanford Invitational is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT) and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival begins at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Florida Relays start at 1 p.m. on Thursday, 8:30 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.

A live stream of the Florida Relays will be aired on the SEC Network + and the Stanford Invitational will be live on FloTrack.org. Times have not yet been determined.
 

TUUFULI NAMED CO-BIG TEN FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Reno Tuufuli was named Co-Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week following his performance at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on March 18-19. Tuufuli won the discus throw with a mark of 59.04 meters (193 feet, 8 inches). This marked Tuufuli’s first career Big Ten conference award. The last Hawkeye to be named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week in the outdoor season was Babatunde Amosu in the triple jump in 2014.

DISTANCE TEAM HEADS TO 2 MEETS
The Iowa distance team will split up their squad for two meets in California. Senior Tess Wilberding and junior Marta Bote Gonzalez qualifed from past performances to compete at the Stanford Invitational while eight more Hawkeyes will compete at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.

4x100M RELAYS ENTER IOWA’S TOP 10
Iowa had a men’s and women’s relay enter the all-time top 10 at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on March 18-19. The men’s relay team of senior Aaron Mallett, junior O’Shea Wilson, freshman Emmanuel Ogwo, and sophomore Mar’yea Harris ran 39.49 to place fifth all-time and rank seventh in the nation. The women’s team of sophomore Taylor Chapman, sophomore Briana Guillory, senior Alexis Hernandez, and junior Brittany Brown rank second in Iowa history with a time of 44.34. They sit ninth in the country.

LARRISON RANKS TOP 10 IN THE COUNTRY
Sophomore Noah Larrison is currently sixth in the country in the 400 meters hurdles with a time of 51.02. He finished runner-up at the Baldy Castillo Invitational and is tied for eighth all-time in Iowa history. 

GUILLORY RETURNS AS REIGNING B1G FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Briana Guillory enters her sophomore campaign as the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Guillory led Iowa in two events during her freshman season(100 meters and 200 meters). She broke the school record in the 100 meters at the Musco Twilight meet on April 23 with a time of 11.35.  She is also tied for the school record in the 200 meters with junior Brittany Brown, who recorded a time of 22.89.

RETURNING RECORD HOLDERS
Iowa has five outdoor school-record holders on the team who are returning in 2017 — Aaron Mallett (110-meter high hurdles, 13.40), Briana Guillory (100 meters, 11.35 and 200 meters, 22.89), Brittany Brown (200 meters, 22.89), William Dougherty (Decathlon, 7,311 points), and Marta Bote Gonzalez (3,000-meter steeplechase, 10:23.15). 

RETURNING BIG TEN CHAMPIONS
Iowa returns 2016 Big Ten Champions on two events and two relays in 2017. Senior Aaron Mallett won the Big Ten Championship in the 110-meter hurdles in 2016 and returns to defend his title along with reigning Big Ten freshman of the Year Briana Guillory, who took home the 200-meter title. The men’s Big Ten Championship winning 400-meter relay returns three of its four athletes in sophomore Christian Brissett, and Mallett. The women’s 1,600-Meter relay returns  two athletes — senior Alexis Hernandez and Guillory.

IT’S THAT TYPE OF YEAR
The University of Iowa track and field team enjoyed an indoor season for the ages. During their 2017 campaign the squad set or reset 13 school records including six at the Big Ten Championships– 10 on the men’s side and three on the women’s side. The school records include: the men’s 60-meter hurdles twice (Aaron Mallett, 7.63), 400 meters twice (Mar’yea Harris, 45.75), 800m (Carter Lilly, 1:47.33), heptathlon twice (Will Dougherty, 5,504 points), 4x400m relay twice (Emmanuel Ogwo, Collin Hofacker, DeJuan Frye, Harris, 3:04.94), distance medley relay (Lilly, Frye, Matt Manternach, and Harris, 9:44.07), women’s 200 meters (Brittany Brown, 22.79), long jump (Jahisha Thomas, 6.39m), and triple jump (Thomas, 13.00m).

NEXT ON THE BLOCK
The Hawkeyes head to Arizona for the 39th annual Sun Angel Classic, hosted by Arizona State on April 5.
