Hawkeyes Fall in Big Ten Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team fell to No. 31 Wisconsin, 5-2, inside the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex on Friday in both team’s conference opener.
 
Junior Jake Jacoby made swift work in his singles match against the Badgers’ Daniel Soyfer with a straight-set, 6-3, 6-3 victory. Redshirt freshman Kareem Allaf continued his success on court three with win decided by two tiebreak sets. Allaf is now 9-3 in spring season competition.
 
All three doubles matches were tightly-contested, with Wisconsin winning two of the three matches that were all decided by 6-4 scores to secure the doubles point. Jacoby and senior Robin Haden improved to 9-1 in the doubles three spot this season as they knocked off the Badger duo of John Zordani and Osgar O’Hoisin, 6-4. The Badger tandem suffered just their second loss, falling to 7-2 on the season.
 
Iowa falls to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while Wisconsin improves to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten.
   
Later this week, the Hawkeyes will hit the road for a Spring Break trip that starts in Nebraska on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT). Iowa will return home on March 31.
