Doyle Invited to USA U19 National Team Trials

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman Kathleen Doylehas been invited to the U19 United States Women’s Basketball National Team Trials. The U19 National Team Trials will be held at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from May 18-21.
 
“I am very excited for this opportunity to try out for the USA U19 team,” said Doyle. “I am honored that I have been invited. I get chills thinking about playing against the best players in our country, and having the potential opportunity to play with them against the best players from around the world. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I can’t wait to take full advantage of it.”
 
A native of LaGrange Park, Illinois, Doyle played in all 34 games and registered 29 starts in her freshman campaign. She averaged 9.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and led the Hawkeyes in assists (4.4) and steals (2.1) per game. A Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection, Doyle dished out five or more assists on 17 occasions and scored in double figures 15 times. She led all conference freshmen in free throw percentage (70.1) and steals (2.1), and broke program records for assists (148) and steals (71) in a freshman season.
 
“It is a great honor for Kathleen to be recognized as one of the best in the country and be invited to the trials,” said UI head coach Lisa Bluder. “Competing against the best in her age group in a competitive environment will be a terrific experience for her. These types of experiences open your eyes to how good you can be, and they show you areas where you can grow. Kathleen will thrive in this setting.”
 
Doyle will compete against the top U19 talent in the United States for a spot on the 12-member team. The 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship will be held July 22-30 in Udine and Cividale del Friuli, Italy, from July 22-30.
