IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa soccer team will host 11 home games at the Iowa Soccer Complex as part of its 2017 schedule, UI head coach Dave DiIanni announced Tuesday.

Among the 20 games on the slate (19 regular season, one exhibition), the Hawkeyes will face eight teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament a season ago, including six that advanced to the Round of 32.

Iowa opens the season on the road for the first three games beginning with an exhibition contest at Kansas on Aug. 12.  The Jayhawks advanced to the Round of 32 in 2016. The Hawkeyes open the regular season with a trip to Virginia, facing off against VCU on Aug. 18 and Richmond on Aug. 20.

The Hawkeyes return to Iowa City on Aug. 25 for the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series matchup against Iowa State.  It begins a stretch where Iowa will play 10 of 11 games at the Iowa Soccer Complex.

Iowa squares off against perennial NCAA power Notre Dame on Aug. 27 before hosting Southern Utah on Aug. 31.  Following a neutral site game against UC Santa Barbara in Minneapolis on Sept. 3, the Hawkeyes close out nonconference play by hosting Montana (Sept. 8) and Loyola Chicago (Sept. 10).

Big Ten Conference play begins with an opening four-game gauntlet against opponents that were 2016 NCAA Tournament participants.  The Hawkeyes host Nebraska (Sept. 15), Penn State (Sept. 22), and Ohio State (Sept. 24) before traveling to Ann Arbor for a Sept. 29 meeting at Michigan.

Following an Oct. 1 match-up at Michigan State, the Hawkeyes return to Iowa City to face Rutgers — a Round of 32 team — on Oct. 5 and Maryland on Oct. 8.

Iowa heads to Indiana for an Oct. 12 contest and makes a stop in West Lafayette to face Purdue on Oct. 15.  The Hawkeyes will host Wisconsin — a Round of 32 participant — on Senior Night on Oct. 21 before closing out the regular season at Illinois on Oct. 25.

The top eight teams in the conference standings will advance to the 2017 Big Ten Tournament. Quarterfinal games will be contested on four league campuses with the semifinals and finals being played at the highest seed remaining following the quarterfinal round.
