IOWA CITY, Iowa  The University of Iowa men’s tennis team fell, 5-2, to No. 16 Michigan outside at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex onFriday.

The Hawkeyes started strong as they grabbed the doubles point from the Wolverines with wins on courts one and three.

Senior Robin Haden and junior Jake Jacoby paired at No. 1 to take down the 11th-ranked team of Jathan Malik and Connor Johnston, 6-0. Senior Nils Hallestrand and sophomore Jonas Larsen saw a 6-1 victory at three.

“[Robin and Jake] did everything that we talk about, that we want to come out and do when we play doubles,” said UI head coach Ross Wilson. “They did all the basics of doubles really well.”

In singles, Iowa lone freshman picked up the only win at the bottom of the line-up. Jason Kerst took straight sets over Davis Crocker. The Ann Arbor, Michigan, native now has four wins at No. 6 this season.

“You can’t say enough about Jason,” Wilson said. “He’s the guy that every coach in the country would want on his team.”

The Hawkeyes (12-14, 1-9) return to action Sunday to host Michigan State at Noon (CT) and North Dakota in the nightcap.
