IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team saw two victories in their final home matches Sunday defeating Michigan State, 4-0, and North Dakota, 7-0, outside at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.

The Hawkeyes began the day with their final regular season conference matchup against the Spartans.

The home squad easily grabbed the doubles point with wins on courts one (6-1) and two 6-2). Senior Robin Haden and junior Jake Jacoby paired at one while redshirt freshman Kareem Allaf and junior Josh Silverstein played at two for the Hawkeyes. Both tandems had victories in the nightcap against North Dakota as well. The duo of senior Nils Hallestrand and sophomore Jonas Larsen also notched a win versus the Fighting Hawks at the three position.

In singles action, freshman Jason Kerst registered his second Big Ten win, bouncing Alexander Kim, 7-6(0), 6-2, to clinch the match for the Hawkeyes. Allaf (7-6, 6-1) and Jacoby (6-2, 6-3) also posted wins.

“[Jason] was 0-5 going into this weekend and for him to pick up two wins for us when we definitely needed them is a special thing and that’s definitely a step in the right direction,” said UI head coach Ross Wilson.

Haden and Hallestrand played their final home matches as Hawkeyes in the nightcap. Collectively, the Swedes won two singles and one doubles match.

“I think [on senior day] you start thinking about the wins that we’ve had and building this program up over the last four years that Nils has been here and the two years that Robin has been here,” ] Wilson said. “It was nice for them to get wins today.”

The Hawkeyes (14-14, 2-9) return to action Thursday at West Lafayette, Indiana, as the No. 10 seed in first round competition at the Big Ten tournament against No. 7 Penn State (2 p.m. ET).
