LUCERNE, Switzerland — The University of Iowa men’s basketball team cruised to a 69-point win last night over the Swiss All-Stars. After the 90 minute drive back to their hotel, it was a late night. So Friday’s activity schedule was light to allow the players to sleep in a little and then take a sightseeing bus ride through the Swiss Alps.

The bus drove south of Lucerne through scenic areas such as Lake Lungren, Interlaken, and Trümmelbach Falls. The weather was not ideal with more light rain, fog and overcast skies, but it didn’t dampen the players’ spirits.

“Trümmelbach Falls was beautiful,” said junior forward Ahmad Wagner. “We didn’t really know what to expect on our drive today. We were surprised how beautiful this place is and how great the water made this place look. We got soaked but we still had a great time.”

Trümmelbach Falls are a series of ten glacier-waterfalls inside the mountain. The Trümmelbach alone drains three of the largest mountains in the Alps (Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau). The falls carry up to a staggering 20,000 liters of water per second.

As cool as Trummelback Falls was, the drive to and from the waterfalls was just as amazing.

“The drive was really cool,” redshirt freshman Riley Till said. “We kept going in-and-out of tunnels through the mountains every once in a while. We would be in a tunnel for a minute or two and then you would look out and see the mountains. During the drive out tour guide was telling us about the history of how the valleys and mountain ranges were made. This was a breathtaking experience.”

The team arrived back at its hotel in Lucerne late Friday afternoon to relax and enjoy their final night in Switzerland. The Hawkeyes, who have arrived traveled over 5,000 miles since Sunday, will hit the road again Saturday morning for their next destination – Lake Como, Italy.
