IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, approved the schematic design, project description, budget, and financing plan for a $9.95 million construction of a new Finkbine Golf Course Clubhouse and support facility.

“We are excited to create a clubhouse that matches one of the finest golf courses in the state,” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics and Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair. “Our vision is creating a year-round facility that brings friends and fans of the university and community together in an enjoyable, casual atmosphere.”

The clubhouse project will replace the 52-year old current facility with a new two-level, 23,000 square foot clubhouse that includes dining, banquet event space, a fully accessible retail pro shop, and enhanced men’s and women’s locker rooms.

“We are extremely excited to complement our collegiate course with this new clubhouse,” said Tyler Stith, men’s head golf coach. “This allows us to host future NCAA championship events and enhances the level of experience we are able to provide our student-athletes and community.”

“I see the new clubhouse as an outstanding front door to our campus,” said Megan Menzel, women’s head golf coach. “It will be a welcome addition for our golf programs and it will certainly enhance the golfing experience for our community.  It will provide us a great opportunity to help grow the game of golf in Iowa City as we will be able to host outstanding home events and future championships.”

Construction is anticipated to start during spring, 2018, and be completed and open to the public in the spring of 2019.  The project will be funded by athletics department gifts.
