IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa head field hockey coach Lisa Cellucci has received a contract extension through the year 2022. The announcement was made Tuesday by Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair Gary Barta.

“Lisa has proven to be a strong leader for her program and we are excited about the direction field hockey is headed with the influence of a highly-regarded group of newcomers this fall,” said Barta.  “We have every confidence that Lisa and her staff will have our team prepared to compete for Big Ten championships and beyond on an annual basis.”

“I’m grateful for this contract extension and for the opportunity to continue to build upon the strong history and tradition of excellence of Iowa field hockey,” said Cellucci. “I am a proud product of the Iowa field hockey program and I owe this program and those that came before me so much for who I am as a coach and an overall person.  I truly look forward to being able to provide that same life changing experience to many more women in the years ahead.”

Cellucci is in her 18th year as a member of the Hawkeye coaching staff and her fourth year as a head coach. She has helped lead Iowa to one Final Four, six NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, and four Big Ten Championships. The Hawkeyes have compiled a 201-131 overall record with Cellucci on the sidelines and have been consistently ranked in the NFHCA top-20.

A native of Broomall, Pennsylvania, Cellucci has guided numerous athletes to regional and national accolades. In her three completed years as head coach, Cellucci has coached four NFHCA All-Americans, eight NFHCA All-Regional selections (four first team), two NFHCA West Region Players of the Year, three Big Ten Offensive Players of the Year, one Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and nine All-Big honorees.

Throughout her tenure, Cellucci has also emphasized the importance of academic success. She has coached 23 Academic All-Big Ten selections, 20 NFHCA National Academic Squad honorees, and six Big Ten Distinguished Scholars. In 2014, Cellucci’s Hawkeyes received the NFHCA National Academic Team award.

As a student-athlete, Cellucci was one of the greatest goalkeepers to ever wear the Black and Gold. During her four year career, Cellucci was a three-time All-American, four-time All-Big Ten selection, and a four-time regional All-American. She helped the Hawkeyes to three Big Ten Championships, one Final Four, and three NCAA Sweet 16 appearances. Cellucci currently holds Iowa’s all-time saves record.

The Hawkeyes travel to California for a trio of contests this weekend. Iowa takes on Stanford on Sept. 1 before playing California on Sept. 3, and UC-Davis on Sept. 4.
