IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to Loyola Chicago in its final nonconference game Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes are now 5-2-0 on the season.

Loyola came out strong in the first half, scoring in the 22nd and 36th minutes. Iowa’s sophomore goalkeeper Claire Graves had only given up four goals prior to Sunday’s matchup.

The Hawkeyes took three quick shots to start the second half but were unsuccessful in netting the ball. Sophomore Natalie Winters had the best  opportunity in the 53rd minute, but the ball caromed off the post.

KEY HAWKEYE PERFORMER
Winters lead the Hawkeyes with three shots over 82 minutes of action.

QUOTING HEAD COACH DAVE DIIANNI
“First of all, give credit to Loyola. They played hard in all phases of the game. They were committed to physically battling and they punched three goals on six shots so credit to them.

“For us, it was an example of hopefully a good lesson. We just got outplayed and we were not prepared and our margin for error is just not good enough. It’s too small to not be all in as a group and unfortunately, we haven’t seen that performance at a practice. We’ve had a good nonconference schedule and it’s unfortunate we ended it this way. We are going to have to find some lessons in it and be ready to go against Nebraska next Friday.”
