Kirk, Lisa, Fran, Tom, Gary and others of the UI Athletics Department. We'll add to it after each media event as a reference tool for friends and fans of the Hawkeyes.

  • Greg Davis, Phil Parker Media Conference, Apr. 24

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The scoring system for the spring game will be offense basically scores the way they normally do, so a touchdown is six points, extra point, field goals. The other way the offense will get points in this system is three first downs in a row creates one point or an explosive play run of 12 plus or a pass of 16 plus. So that's where the offense will pick up points."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Mar. 22, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, we felt like we needed to get more on the offensive glass. We only had three offensive rebounds in the first half against seven in the second half. When you're not making shots down that one stretch of the first half, we weren't making shots and they were cleaning everything up. We just challenged the guys to get a few more on the offensive glass."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Mar. 20, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, he was just in a mini slump at that time. He wasn't making the shots he normally makes. We were playing really good teams. They were getting after him. They were targeting him and putting really good defenders on him and doubling him and running guys out and things of that nature, and sometimes you just have to go through that. He never stopped believing in himself. Even you guys kept asking me, I said, I'm going to keep going to him, he's my guy and he's going to come through for us and he's continued to do that."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Mar. 12, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "He looked good. Yeah, he looked good. Probably did about 30 percent of the practice. See how he feels today."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 27, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, for us it was good defense. They always play good defense. I mean, you know they're going to play good defense and make it hard for you to score. So yeah, it was good defense."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 25, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We're a team that clearly has been very close in that respect. So when you fall short, you lose a game you had a chance to win, it makes you feel that much worse."more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Feb. 22, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "So, all in all, I think we're just really happy with the way things have gone certainly. We've been through a period of transition, but really enthused about the direction of things and really enthused about the group of guys that we have here."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 22, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, Melissa Dixon has been fabulous for us off the bench all year. And I think she is absolutely a shoe in for the Sixth Player of the Year. I don't even know who would challenge her for the Sixth Player of the Year at this point. I've heard lately that she's one of the best 3 point shooters in the country as far as the sixth player. So I absolutely think Melissa Dixon is a shoe in for that."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 17, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "They were really cooking early with their offense. We were having trouble with them. But we were also having trouble at the offensive end. They finished pretty good. Didn't seem like we got any clean looks early. Even the one three that Zach made was not a clean look."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 14, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The downfall was our free throws. We're usually a great free throw shooting team, and we did not take advantage of the free throws, missed a couple front ends and one on ones in the first half, just that could have kept the game so much closer if we just could have made our free throws."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 11, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, another tough one, obviously tonight any time you lose a game by one point you always have those `What if' situations and you think about all the opportunities and those are the ones that keep you awake at night, but it was nice to see Morgan (Johnson) get on track. I thought we played with much better focus today; great determination, fought back, played well in crunch time, it was just too much Jordan Hooper for us in this game."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 9, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I thought we played great in the first half, I really did, wih the exception of the fact we gave up eight offensive rebounds. They did miss nine threes. I felt offensively we were terrific in the first half. Defensively we had a few breakdowns, we gave up some seconds, but I thought we were great in both halves."more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Feb. 6, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "It's good to see you. And probably like most coaches, certainly excited about the class and excited to be back on campus as well. I think most of us are looking forward to getting reacquainted with our teams and our families and all that kind of thing. And the first thing I'd like to do is just thank our staff. I think they did a great job throughout the recruiting process, not only in terms of evaluation, but also the actual recruitment, all the work that goes into that, it's pretty involved and I think the guys really did a tremendous job there."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 5, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Minnesota. Kind of a homecoming for a lot of our players, which is fun for them to go back home. But also there's a lot of personal pride on the line when you're from the state of Minnesota and you go back up there to play. I'm sure that will add a little bit of intensity to this rivalry that's always been pretty strong."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 3, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Tough loss. I feel like we just kind of let that one slip through our hands, gave it away. Held them to 18 points the first half and give up 49 points the second half so a total letdown on defense in the second half, unfortunately."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 31, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, the thing about Woodbury is and I go back to his last game. I was really impressed with him, because what I tried to get him to do was get him to understand how he can impact the game in different ways. It's not only as a scorer, but his energy level was great."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 29, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, the thing about Woodbury is and I go back to his last game. I was really impressed with him, because what I tried to get him to do was get him to understand how he can impact the game in different ways. It's not only as a scorer, but his energy level was great."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 29, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Playing at Illinois this week is going to be one tough basketball game. They are an aggressive team. You have to keep your composure. I think Sam's going to be big for us in that, just because she did such a great job in the Michigan game keeping her composure, and the rest of the team fed off that. And Illinois just banks on the fact that you're going to panic in their traps and in their pressure defense."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 25, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, she is unbelievable at the free throw line, but she did it in all areas, taking it to the hoop, step back threes, going to the free throw line. So it was in all manners that she was looking to score. I felt like she just took it upon herself at that point to go assure us that we were going to get this win."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 19, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think it's important, but as I said a number of times, I think it was important that we just play better. We played better than we did in those games at both ends of the floor. When you do that, then you win close games."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 16, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "He's just got to concentrate and finish. He's got to attack the rim. He's flipping it up there a little bit occasionally and fading away a little bit. Those are common mistakes for a young big guy. But he's working. I mean, he's rebounding, he's playing phenomenal defense. He's been tremendous. You know, it's unfortunate that he's missing some shots that he would normally make because then you'd be talking about how great he's been because he'd be hitting double doubles. But he's performing exactly like we hoped he would."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 10, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Melsahn and Zach were fabulous. Did exactly what we need them to do. A junior who has come off the bench. Has been through it. We've been struggling from three. Zach gets three big threes. Missed some, came back, kept firing. Basabe was great, ran the floor, moved his feet, terrific."more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 4, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We felt like we were fortunate to only be down one because I don't think we played that well in the first half. We knew if we came out and played well in the second half, we could win this game. That's what we talked about. Let's play this next 20 minutes. Offensively, we're the kind of team that really tries to I think does a good job of identifying what's there. Tonight the three point shots weren't there. Morgan didn't shoot the ball as well as she has in the past, but we got the ball inside for some high percentage shots, especially when Ashley Adams went out."more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 28, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, I think it's a great challenge. Obviously, Cody Zeller's playing at a very high level. Did so last year. He's one of the best running big men I've seen in a long time, tremendous speed. Their running game is really on all cylinders right now, and that's obviously an issue for us at both ends of the floor and have to have the ability to get back. more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 19, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, he's just really playing well. I'm just really proud of him. I'm moving him around. He's got a brace on. If our offense starts to get bogged down, he makes a play. He's playing with a lot of confidence right now. But I wasn't going to keep him out there today." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Dec. 19, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I thought what was really nice is everybody that came into this game played extremely hard. Whether it was Kali, whether it was Kathy, whether it was Melissa, whether it was Trisha, Kayla, I mean, they all played hard coming off the bench, and that's exactly what you want them to do. So I really thought that our reserves came in and did a great job tonight." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Dec. 13, 2012
  • IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We have won over there, but it's been close games, the Knapp Center is pretty difficult to go in there because it's such tight quarters and people are right on top of you, kind of like when you play up at UNI." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 12, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, he's really worked on that, putting it on the floor. He's working on his pull up game. It's not there yet where it's going to eventually end up. That's when I think he'll be really difficult to guard. His 3-ball hasn't gone in like it will. He's a very capable, more or less standstill 3 point shooter. But he can get to the rim, get to the free throw line, but his pull up game was the last piece. When that comes together, it will really complete the picture for him." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 7, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think obviously (Anthony) Clemmons was spectacular. He has got an amazing ability to remain under control, to think the game, know what we want. Very rare for a player that young." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Dec. 6, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "So I think both teams, again, played very, very good defense. We missed too many free throws. We had an opportunity I think to really put this game away. We missed too many free throws, but I thought the second half, we did a good job of taking care of the ball." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 6, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "This team has a lot of weapons. You know, it's rare that you find a team with this kind of athletic power that shoots it that well. You just don't see that combination a lot. So they defend and they rebound and they've got quick guys who can drive it. But then they spread you out and make threes. You have a team that's leading the country in rebounding, makes 13 threes. It's averaging right at 10 threes a game. Obviously when you think about your ability to defend a team with that many weapons, it's very challenging." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 4, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "He's seeing things. The match up zone is not the easiest thing to play against, unless you have a feel for how you play or unless you see it. He made great decisions: When to pass it in, when to drive it into the gap, when to drive it on the baseline, when to shoot it, when not to, when to fake them. I mean, he was terrific tonight." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 1, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "What he was was very aggressive. That's what we need him to be. I don't think he has been as aggressive in recent weeks. It's great to see. He was alert. He was on the glass. He was driving the ball to the basket, running the floor. When he's playing like that, we're a better team." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Nov. 28, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Certainly we're not pleased about being home, but that's the way it shook out. I think if you look at the big picture a little bit over 12 years, I think we're second in the conference in terms of being .500 plus or better seasons overall, be it overall records of Big Ten records. We have gone to ten bowls and been nationally ranked five times in the Top 10, and all of that. So those are positives, certainly." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Nov. 23, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I also want to thank our seniors, the 19 guys that were recognized before the game, just for all the things that they've done, being great team members, just doing a good job in all areas. Got a lot of respect for those guys certainly and wish them all the best moving forward." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 20, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I don't think it was our "A" top 10 performance, but I don't think it's a bad performance, either, considering all these things. We just had to work extremely hard on Sunday to play that game and then turn around two days later and play this game." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Nov. 20, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Welcome, first of all. We'd like to pay tribute to Tommy Thompson sitting right here. 750th game Saturday, correct? That's pretty impressive. So congratulations on that." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 18, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I want to congratulate North Carolina on their victory today. They came out and just played much harder than we did in the first half. Much more composed than we were in the first half. It was pretty much a miserable first half for us. The second half, I thought we got our composure, we played a lot better. We took care of the ball better." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 17, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, I think it's a funny game in that respect. You'd never anticipate what happened. It's kind of exactly what they did to DePaul. They run really good stuff, and they've got good players. They're small and quick, and they were quicker to the ball in the first half." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 15, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I thought the defense was great. I mean, we contained penetration. We pressed them and rebounded well. You know, we got after their good players, the guys that we were worried about. (Mike) Phillips got away from us a little bit. He's a good player. But we made him work. Workmanlike effort, I thought." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 14, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, you just walk away feeling so much better about it. Yes, you can learn a lot through a loss, but I've always felt you can learn a lot through a win, too. I don't want to have to have losses to put ourselves in that learning situation. No matter if we win or lose, we evaluate film the same way, and try to approach it the same way with our players as far as giving them constructive criticism on what they can do better even in a win. So we can still learn a lot through this win." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 13, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Of course we're playing Middle Tennessee. I've seen them ranked as high as 15th in the country this year. They were in the NCAA Tournament last year and only lost one player from that team that was in the NCAA Tournament. And then on the other side of the bracket you have North Carolina and Georgetown. So again, two quality women's basketball programs. So this final four is very, very good." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Nov. 12, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "If we could get that we'd be really happy with that. And then Weisman is going to do some work. He's improving, but I don't know if it's enough. It's one of those things where we're day by day, and even if it looks like he's going to play, you can't count on him, I guess, is where I'm putting it. But he is improving." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 12, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We gave them five threes in the first half. We felt like if we gave them five threes in the second half, that would really be problematic. So we contained penetration better and contested threes better. Then, of course, we got a little more movement on offense and really executed substantially better in the second half offensively." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Nov. 10, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "A couple things I'll just start real quickly before we get to football. I thought our fans were tremendous today, certainly appreciate that. And they've been great all year, so we're very appreciative of that. You know, we certainly couldn't honor the vets in a better fashion." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 9, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "They were terrific, I thought. Mike was solid the whole game. Kept pushing it, played great defense. I thought Woodbury was terrific. He got it going defensively in the second half. That's because he runs and he's always where he's supposed to be." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 9, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I was thrilled. When she made that first three, I was really excited, but then I was even more excited when I saw her take the ball to the hole, because you never know about that aspect of your game coming off the injury that she did, and I just was thrilled to see her take the ball to the hole hard, and got my Jaime Printy back, so I'm pretty happy." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 7, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I mean, the practices are more competitive as we discussed, and that's been a reality. It's not like it's going to be that necessarily every game, but those guys have stepped up and done really well, but the second group went on a 23 0 run in that game. There's probably going to be times where you're really not sure who the first group and the second group is, and I think that's a good thing." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 4, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I thought this was a pretty good opener for us. I was happy with the way we took care of the ball. You know, we started out a little scary with that. But then we got better. Only three turnovers in the second half. And I think it's something that you always see in the first game is your timing maybe not there." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 4, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Now he's been through it. He's in great physical condition and been a very valuable asset in practice. Came in. They're in a 1 3 1. He's gotta figure that out and navigate it and make sure we get a decent shot without turning it over. And I felt very comfortable with him in the game." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 1, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think the exhibition games, you go in there, you want to set the tempo for your team and win every game you step on the floor, but hopefully you're going to learn against yourselves." more

  • Fran McCaffery Media Conference, Oct. 31, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I would say that there's a good chance the team I start on Sunday would be the team I start for a while. Obviously it would depend upon how it unfolds before our eyes. Do we play well? Do we play with chemistry? That kind of thing. Still tinkering with it a little bit. There's some guys that are pretty obviously going to be in the starting lineup, others not so much." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Oct. 30, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I'm concerned about everything right now offense, defense, special teams and just how we play collectively. That's our task. It won't be easy this week. It's another high tempo group the third week in a row. So if there's a positive in that, at least we're catching it all in one stretch here. It just gets down to us playing better collectively, and I'm confident we'll do that." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Oct. 20, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think the first two games we struggled. I think after that, we started making some real progress and then we played a very good defensive football team last week and played a real good defensive team tonight. We definitely struggled tonight. We didn't block them well, execute well, run or pass. We couldn't get anything going tonight, at all, period." more

  • Lisa Bluder Media Conference, Oct. 17, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We're anchoring that with Sam Logic. Again, Sam will be our leader on the floor. Last year she was a unanimous All Big Ten selection to the Big Ten team. She started every game for us last year. She led our team in assists, as you would expect of your point guard, but she also led our team in rebounds, which just shows you the physical style and the grit that she plays with." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Oct. 16, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Just following up on John Campbell. John's just such a tremendous guy, so I certainly want to wish him all the best. I didn't realize until just now, Steve told me he had made that official. Our best to John. I've got a lot of respect for him certainly." more

  • Kirk Ferentz Media Conference, Oct. 9, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "He's a very big guy and a powerful guy. Yet he's mentally talented. You've seen him hurdle guys, pretty impressive for any back. But you think about a guy with his size, to have that athleticism, so he's a real challenge. If you break down at all and somebody misses a gap to break down that kind of thing, he can really hurt you, and he can run with some speed too. It's a real challenge for us." more

  • Phil Parker Media Conference, Sept. 29, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "This is about the halfway mark during the season, even though we've played five games, we had three weeks of two a days and most of the practice is already halfway over. So it was a good break for our kids to get them back healthy, an opportunity to work some of the younger guys on defense and see where they fit into our plans for the rest of the season." more

  • Greg Davis Media Conference, Sept. 29, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The line James got us in the right play, the line picked up to start well. Keenan made it from a 12 yard play into a 30 yard play, and he was actually excited after the play. I told him the only reason I showed the play is that's the first time he's ever been excited about a block in his life. But he has really done a good job." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Oct. 2, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Certainly not much fun for us out there today. I tell our team all the time, we get what we deserve, and that's what we got today. As did Central; they deserved the win. They played the full 60 and made the plays you have to make to come out victorious. Give them credit. We certainly give them credit and they played extremely hard. Obviously on our side of the coin, we have got a lot of work to do right now, a lot of things to improve upon and we are going to have to do it fast because we have another game next week." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 22, 2012

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 18, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "So we turned our sights to Central Michigan yesterday, and you know, we're playing a team that's kind of unusual right now. They are coming off a bye week, can't remember many of those early in a season like this. But they have got a bye week in their third week. They have had a week to rest a little bit and we have got two games to look at on them and last year's tape. I think if you look at them, they are a team that runs the ball really well." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 18, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Those guys do a good job, and I think all you have to do is look back to the 2009 game when we played them. I don't know that we played anybody during the course of that season that played any harder than they do, and that's exactly what you see on their film from last year or this year. So they are a team that's very well coached. They play with great toughness, great effort and it's going to be a big challenge for us on Saturday." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 11, 2012

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 8, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, we had several drives where we moved it, and you know, when we are making some plays, that gives you a chance to move it and advance it. The little things affected us, a lot of little errors during the course of the game, soft drives certainly did. Our protection was better today, just in general terms; that was an improvement. But obviously we didn't finish drives again, the ones that we did have. Got to throw it a couple of times but couldn't sustain it. And then obviously the biggest situation, it was ball down inside the five and we couldn't punch it in." more

  • Ferentz on Iowa Football Media Day, Aug. 6 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think they've had a good attitude, good work ethic, and as we move forward the keys for this football team I think are going to be improvement, and that's true with any team, any organization, but certainly our football team right now, and also developing consistency, and those things are a lot easier to talk about than do, and that's where we're at right now. We're in a very, very important phase of this team's development." more

  • Parker, Davis Media Conference, April 11, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, we've had a great start. We've had eight practices now. For the most part, we've got the majority of the offense in. Kind of the goal for the spring is to do a couple things: One, we wanted to get the offense installed; two, we wanted to use the time to find out where our strengths were. Then, from there, we can move the focus of the offense in the proper direction." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Mar. 20, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Good to have everybody here. I'm glad to hear about Bob doing well. I know everybody is concerned about him. He's a great guy. Glad he's doing better. Hope everybody is able to make it in the building. We have a lot of things going on around here, makes it tricky to get into work right now, but we're certainly excited about the indoor facility going up. It was good to see the structure starting to take shape. Our players are excited about that." McCaffery Media Conference, Mar. 3, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, the bulk of our turnovers came seemingly at the end of the first half. They went 1 3 1 we had no problem with it. Then they amped up the intensity of it. Then we started going side to side, and we just weren't seeing the guys that were open. The same guys that we saw in the second half were much better. So it's unfortunate, I feel bad, because the guys worked at it. They were concentrating. They just got a little sideways." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 26, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "This game was important to us for so many reasons. It was important because it assured us of the first round bye and finishing third in the conference and I guess we could actually tie for second in the conference if Ohio State loses to Nebraska." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 24, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Was really solid, wasn't it? One of the most incredible things I've ever seen, right from the beginning. The first two he made, I mean, he got it off so quick. I mean, they were on him. He made seven in the last game, they were on him. They do a great job with scouting. He just pulled the trigger. Once he got going, he was on fire, yeah." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 22, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Really happy that we moved up to a tie for third. And what happens this week will make a big impact on where we end up in this conference play. We could finish up as high as third or as low at seventh from these two games this week. So, thus, a big week." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 19, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Getting ready for a big week, two home games. Playing Minnesota and Michigan State at home. Minnesota, their record, I think, again, is deceiving. They're 4 7 in this conference. One of those wins is against Ohio State, so that obviously has our attention. They are a team that is playing very well right now. I feel like they're playing hard." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Really pleased with the class overall. We certainly felt like we had some needs to meet and tried to address, and I think we did a good job with that. I think overall the entire class, all 24 guys signed right now, we feel really good about them having a role in the future with us, most importantly, I think they're good fits with our program. I think that is the number one thing that we look for." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, I can't tell you about a happy locker room that was and deserved it. I'm so happy for this group, because it's been a tough January. You know, you play eight teams that are in the Top 25, we finally got one." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 24, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "If you look at Nebraska, they didn't have two of their best players the first three games they played. And they've got two excellent wins already. And you look at the league, top to bottom, same thing. I mean, very few leagues have the top two teams with at least two losses and everybody with at least two wins." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "When I watched them at the beginning of the year, the beginning of the conference season until now, they're competing, they're playing hard, and they're not getting the rewards of the wins. But they're certainly a team that we have to play our best basketball in order to get them tomorrow night." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 14, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Offensively, I thought even early when he was missing, he was taking great looks and they all looked like they were going to go in, and then he got hot. He made big shots late when we needed them, free throws late when we needed them. And just an incredibly complete game with phenomenal effort focusing concentration and really proud of him." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 7, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You can double team anybody and get the ball out of his hands, but the question then becomes: What do you do from there? For us, we've got to rotate and do two things: contain penetration and contest shooters, which is very difficult which you're spread out like that." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 5, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I'm really proud of our team for battling, keep believing. I thought over zone defense was very good tonight. Our halfcourt stuff was pretty good tonight. They hung in there with us, and really gave us some life at the end of the game." more

And I thought offensively, we played well enough to win. But you can't give multiple players 5 for 7, 2 for 3, 6 for 9, 3 for 4, 2 for 4, 2 for 4; no matter who they put in, it was just drive and score. " more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think when you're going to beat a good team, there's a number of things you have to do. In the first half I thought we got pounded on the glass. We ended up out rebounding them for the game. We out rebounded them in the second half I think by four. Five turnovers for the game. You know they're going to press late if they're behind, which they did. So we handled the pressure." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Glad to come out of here with a victory tonight. • Bluder Media Conference, Dec. 20, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think we did a good job playing defense and playing together and definitely getting out in those passing lanes. • McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 29, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "It was frustrating for all of us. We had good shooters taking good shots. They just weren't going in. That's when you have to bear down defensively and hold them to a lower number. You can talk about offense all day long. Shoot 48, they shoot 56, 52 for the game. It's going to be hard to win when you're 15 under on the glass." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Nov. 28, 2011

They really go to him, and the point guard does a real good job, one, of getting him the ball." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Nov. 16, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Glad to come out and get on the winning side of things. Albany is a team that is very difficult to play against at the beginning of the year because of the way they play. They change the way you play because of the craziness they play with. They full court press the whole time. I thought we handled the press pretty well, especially considering how early it is in the season. We had 23 assists on 26 baskets. To me we passed the ball well, we were taking better shots. Even though they were quick, last game we tried to stress working our offense, this is a team you really couldn't work your offense against because of the style that they played." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "They have 20 more rebounds than we do. I don't know who you're going to beat giving up 20 rebounds to. So we've got some work to do, and it's not just the defensive end of boxing out, it's the offensive end. We're getting about 25 percent of offensive rebounds and they're getting 50 percent of offensive rebounds, so it's both ends that we have to do a better job on the boards." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I'm happy with our team. We're down 14 points with nine and a half minutes to go in the first half, we get that to within three points going into halftime. I thought that was critical for us. Second half I thought we crashed better, we did not box out well this game. We have to do a better job boxing out. We shot the ball well and had almost five people in double figures. I love to have that type of balance." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Nov. 12, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, we had the young guys not only on the floor a lot, we haven't been together a lot. You never would have known they were young guys. They weren't mistake makers at that point in time. I thought Oglesby had some really good looks. He'll make eight of those in another night. But he was solid. I mean, White was great. Olaseni was great and I thought Josh played well." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I'm not good with opening statements, so I'll say it's upon us, and we have a mission like we do every year. You try to maybe say it a little bit differently, but it's hard when you have the same philosophy and you're coaching guys that are about that philosophy. Then they buy into that philosophy and sounds like a broken record because it's about distancing yourself from the opponent." more

But he was fine after Monday's practice. The plan was to let him go live and to see how he's doing then. He'll probably do some stuff up and down today. It'll be good to see him back." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Nov. 8, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "They're a little bit like the challenge last week. Very different in terms of schemes offensively and defensively, but they're alike in that you both have an identity, they both have an approach, and they really do a great job within their approach. They've got a bunch of good players in all phases, and they're very, very well coached, and they play well. They beat the team that we just beat by a couple touchdowns earlier. So that just gives you an idea of the level of difficulty here" more

So we are going to have be at our absolute best just to have a chance to win this football game, and we will get working on that this afternoon." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "So everybody else should be okay and they are moving forward. And the only other thing that's happened, we took some time as a staff and just talked a lot of things out. And I think we are kind of in the position right now, I think we'll probably go about 50 percent blitz the rest of the season, 100 percent no huddle. That's about what we have come up with. That's where our focus returns back to today, starting with Sunday." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 17, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, needless to say I'm very happy. Whatever happens we're going to push forward and try to get better next week. But with a team with a lot of young guys, I'm going to say we're a young team, we got some good senior players, older players, but we have a lot of moving parts right now, so for us to be able to do that, pull something off like that, especially when it looks pretty bleak, if we allow it to be, it will be a really good thing for us and help our growth." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 13, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The key thing for us right now is to learn, and then we'll have to move on because we're playing a really good football team in Pitt this week. They've got a new staff. Todd Graham has done a great job throughout his career. They've got Big Ten experience on that staff, with at least three at least that I can count off the top of my head who have experience in the conference and have played against us. So they'll be familiar with the surroundings and the team and all that type of thing." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 6, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The conditions were more than unusual, so it's probably a good learning experience from that standpoint. Certainly got some opportunity to work with a wet ball and experiencing a delay, that type of thing. Hopefully it won't happen again this year, but you never know. So hopefully we've learned something there." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Sept. 3, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We're not going to win football games like that. It's ironic, I was talking with the announcers yesterday, they were complimenting us. We've done a pretty good job last couple years with turnover margin. We didn't help ourselves there today. End of the day, that's going to get us beat. We're not a good enough team where we're going to be able to give up any quarter at all. That's one area we have to do a better job with. If that ball is on the ground, you're putting it up to a risk, leaving it to a referee's interpretation. First and foremost, that's on the top of my list." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Aug. 30, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Just a couple words about Tennessee Tech. They're a veteran football team. I don't know if we've played a team that's more veteran. Twenty-one returning starters, that's not including their specialists. They're really veteran. I think they're a team that's really made strides. In all the things that you read out of their camp right now, they feel really good about their football team and I think rightfully so." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Aug. 5, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We don't have a senior class that approaches the numbers we had last year and 2002, our two largest classes, but we've got an excellent group that's ready to not only play well, but take a leadership role with our football team. So we're excited about that." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Mar. 23, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, the trainers are always on the practice field for practicing. The distance from the weight room to the training room, it's pretty minimal. They could have been there. I'm not convinced that would have changed a thing had they been in the room. I don't see that changing at all, so... I don't see any difference." McCaffery Media Conference, Mar. 8, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Have to win four? Yeah, it's ironic too, because the one year well, it's happened more than once but the one year I remember we tied for the regular season championship. We were technically conference regular season champions but lost. We tied with two other teams and lost the tiebreakers." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Mar. 5, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, I think in a lot of ways. Everyone feels the same way about him. They appreciate his effort, his smile, his leadership, his competitive instincts, the way he has helped our younger players develop on the floor, in the locker room. We all wanted it for him." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Mar. 1, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Every game from now on is on the road. We have to be at our best playing on the road now. Hopefully we've learned from it throughout the season. We put ourselves in some situations where we learned to be on the road, how to act on the road, how to perform on the road in different environments. Going to Indiana. A lot riding on this game. There's so many weird tiebreaking scenarios right now, we're not sure what happens. We do know if we win, I think we're guaranteed at least a first round bye." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 24, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think for our conditioning, J.C. Moreau, our strength and conditioning coach, has done a good job like he always does. But I think any you're out performing your opponent that consistently in the second half, it shows that mentally you're in it for 40 minutes and you're able to get it done. And I think our conditioning has been really good this year." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 22, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Kachine handled that situation so well. Here she is her freshman season and halfway through she becomes academically ineligible. A lot of kids at that point quit, go home, transfer, and those thoughts were never expressed to me. She decided that she wanted to make the most of this opportunity, and she definitely has. She's kept her grades up since that point, and obviously she's worked on deficiencies in her game that made her more of an all around player." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 19, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I thought today we executed fairly well in those situations. We got good looks at it. Got a good shot at the tip. Great shot there at the end of overtime and then the rebound. So I think what you want in that situation is to feel like you have a chance. And I thought, Wisconsin we did. Overtime was not as good as we would have liked. Tonight was better. Just didn't go in." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 16, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I'm happy with the way we controlled the boards. We had a plus 14 rebound margin. I told the team, first thing I told them, that's 14 more opportunities we have for the ball because we did a better job of boxing and crashing. I thought we crashed very well, had 11 out of 32 opportunities there. So did a pretty good job there. Only 14 turnovers. Happy with that." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 15, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Only one game this week. But obviously it's an important game because we only play Wisconsin one time. I always think those ones have a little added importance when you only play them one time because if it does end up in a tie, you have the one opportunity. That was another good reason for our road win against Northwestern last week. Good win. We got two in a row now. It was on the road." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 13, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think it's clear that once we started going south, we were not a confident group. So there's a couple things you can do. You can change the lineup. You can change the offense. We did both. Or you can stay with some guys and just tell them to keep shooting. We did that. more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 10, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Good win for us. Minnesota coming in here on a three game win streak, you know, playing with a lot of confidence, us on the other side of that spectrum, having lost two in a row. So I think it was a very big win for us. It's always an emotional win with Minnesota. This is tough for us without Morgan. Morgan played 11 minutes in this game. She was tired, but I admire her ability to come out there and give us what she could." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 9, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, I think one of the things I was proud of in particular was you feel like you're going to win coming down the stretch, and then we had the last shot, we think it's halfway down, it doesn't go in, and they hit it we're trying to win the tip, they win the tip and then get it to three. A lot of times right there a team goes right in the tank, and we came back and took the lead. So I think that speaks to the character of our players, and I was really proud of them for that." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 8, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Oh, I agree. We don't want to do what we did last year and play at Stanford, the No. 2 team in the country last year, so but again, all we can do is try to win every game and then the rest will take care of it, because really, we're sitting pretty good with our RPI right now. So I do believe if we do well in these last games, we could have a very good seed going into the NCAA Tournament." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 7, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We only have him for one more year. I think if he was a freshman, I this that I would be a more difficult question to answer. But going into next year, I think he's established himself clearly." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 6, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We work on it. Every practice contains a dribble drive. Has to be more of a point of focus. It was one of our keys to victory today. We pointed it out that we wanted to contain their penetration. Alex Bentley is so good at penetrating. She can stop on a dime and just pull up with that nice, beautiful jump shot from eight feet. She's in the paint. She's very good at it, very good at it. It's hard to defend. I think we did a little better job in the second half than we did in the first half of it." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Feb. 2, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, I think it makes a big, big difference to our players to know that they have that kind of support, and it definitely impacted our ability to play the kind of defensive game we did tonight, which we've done at times but we have not been consistent and I think that was the key to tonight's game, our consistency at the defensive end of the floor against a really good team." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Feb. 1, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- " I think we might see some higher seeds than what we see in the AP and the Coaches' Poll, and that comes from a little bit of a lack of respect I think. You know, I still think that people are not aware that the Big Ten is the best conference in America right now. And when people are not aware of it, maybe we are not doing a good enough job of marketing ourselves. We need to get the word out that this is the best conference in America, and that will influence maybe some of those voters that don't get to see us all the time." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 27, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "It is still totally up in the air. You've got to you know, Wisconsin is up there, as well. We only get to play them once this year, but it is on our home court. But I just think, it could be anybody's game, and it's just so odd the way the conferences worked out. We have played eight games, but four of them have been against Ohio State and Michigan State, same as Wisconsin. They have played Purdue twice already. It's just odd the way that it came out. So I think there has not been enough people playing each other yet to even know what's really happening in this conference." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 23, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think with him, he's never got down on himself, even though he's been struggling, he knows he's struggling, I know he's struggling, he keeps plugging and he keeps working and he believes in himself and he's always been a scorer. He just knew a day like this was coming and now I think he'll settle down and have more opportunities to do exactly what he did today." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 21, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think it's important for a lot of reasons that Basabe have a good experience. He's got to play well. He's got to get some publicity, but he's also got to assimilate academically, and socially. And he's got to be able to say, you know what, yeah, the basketball side is great, but you know what, the Iowa experience is terrific. The entire experience, because a lot of times you'll get a big city kid that might say, wow, they are in the Big Ten and I like coaches style, but I don't want to go in school in Iowa. Melsahn can say, it's great, it's great to go to school in Iowa, great place, terrific friends, we travel, everything you would want, I'm able to focus. And there is enough things to do." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 20, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think it's both. But I think it's mostly that they have good teams. It's a Monday night we play them, so I don't know what kind of crowd they'll have. But certainly I think it's more the teams than the atmosphere. It's really a nice, and not unusual, atmosphere to play there, but it's very nice. I think it's more the teams that they've had." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 16, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, these guys didn't even know we had the eight day layoff coming up here. Just because of we have the bye on Thursday and Sunday's game is moved to Monday because it's being on ESPN2. We'll get a couple of days off now actually right now. School starts again on Tuesday. So that will be nice for them. But I think at this time of the year, we can put in a couple of new wrinkles, but at the same time it's just cleaning up some of the turnover issues we had today. But we are not going to change a lot in this time. It's just really shoring up on the fundamental whenever you have a game like this." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 14, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think he's fine. I think for our team, it would have been nice to have him be able to do both and use him in the role that we originally planned for him, which would be to play some point, play some off, do both. Go be a scorer and get us into our stuff. Now he's got to do both having the ball all the time, and that's a lot of responsibility for him, and he's doing well, I think, under the circumstances." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 12, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Jordan, he's got savvy. You know, it's not just energy. He's a really good basketball player. He knows how to play basketball. He has a feel. He has instincts, defensively and offensively: How to get open; how to make a defensive play." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 11, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I agree with you. We had more bench points than Ohio State. That is exciting for us. I think Kalli Hansen is coming in and doing a great job for us right now. And Kalli can play the four or the three, so that's nice. She played significant minutes in the last two wins for us. And I think she's playing well. She plays just strong, maturely. She's got a little bit of an edge to her, I think, that is good out there. Little grit to her that I really like. Hannah, you know, it's nice to see her getting her shot back and feeling more comfortable with that because she was in a little bit of a slump there too." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 7, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think we've been able to be somewhat successful with different people doing some things offensively recently, which is going to be helpful to us. For a while the bulk of our offense was coming from the perimeter. Now Jarryd and Melsahn have really stepped up; we've obviously had McCabe playing both small forward and power forward; Brommer I think is playing well. So we can absorb somebody not having a particularly good game and still be out there putting some points on the board." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 6, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, I think it's kind of the game that a lot of people have been waiting for. The rematch of the Big Ten Championship, the opportunity for us to host Ohio State, which we didn't have the opportunity to do last year. We played them twice, a four point loss at their place and a two point loss in the Big Ten tournament. So I know that our players are very excited about this game." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Jan. 4, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "But, I'm proud of my guys and how they fought. This is as good a team as I've watched in a long time. They've got a number of different weapons. I haven't seen a freshman like this guy in a long time. They've have done a real good job with him, and it's the reason they're ranked number two." more

  • Bluder Media Conference, Jan. 2, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, unfortunately this is a tough one for us today. We couldn't buy a bucket, and our defense was good, our rebounding was good. We took care of the ball, so we did a lot of things on that end, but if you can't score points it's hard to win a basketball game, and today we just couldn't score points, whether it was on penetration or whether it was on the open threes." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 29, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "But I thought we battled. We kept coming. Disappointed in the start of the second half, how we came out in the second half. I mean we felt like we didn't play that well, we were down 12 at halftime, we were right there, even though we didn't play well, and then we started poorly to go down 18, put it to the sticks, and then can't seem to put it in at the free throw line; so that was unfortunate." more

  • Ferentz Media Conference, Dec. 27, 2010

TEMPE, Ariz. -- "The biggest thing is we have to play better. We have to execute better, and we have to finish ball games. That's something that we've struggled to do this year. That's documented, well documented. The difference between winning seven games in the regular season and 10, which we did a year ago, is how you finish. And we didn't close out games as successfully this year." more

  • Bluder Post-Game Media Conference, Dec. 22, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Tonight we shot better. We shot 35 percent from three point range tonight. We shot better. I honestly believe they're going to go in. I don't think we're taking bad threes. I have so much faith in these players in making them. It's almost kind of weird for us. It's not like we're all nervous about it. It's just odd. To us, it's just a matter of time before it's going to happen. It's not if it's going to happen, it's when it's going to happen. We're going to break out. We really still have so much confidence in our shooters in shooting the three ball." more

  • McCaffery Post-Game Media Conference, Dec. 21. 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "It's great to see Matt Gatens coming around the way we knew he would. Very impressed. He's got his legs under him now. At the beginning, when he was playing, he didn't have that, and I'm really happy for him. And we are getting good contribution from a lot of different people." more

  • Barta, Ferentz Media Conference, Dec. 14. 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The only comment I would make, big part of coaching, big thing we try to do is try to shape behaviors and sometimes try to change behaviors. Every student athlete that comes here comes from a different background typically. We have over 115 players on our roster typically. It's a wide slice of society when we put a team together." more

  • Bluder Post-Game Media Conference, Dec. 9. 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I liked the way we started both halves. I thought we did a really good job of focusing on the defensive end. When you think we held them to four field goals in the second half, three assists for the game, those are some pretty impressive numbers. Again, everyone was involved in this on the defensive end of things. But I just thought our team really stayed focused. I thought their intensity was very, very good for 40 minutes, maybe one of the best defensive efforts I've seen." more

  • McCaffery Media Conference, Dec. 7. 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know what, I think he's feeling better, I really do. The last couple days in practice, his energy level was what you saw tonight. He was like that early. When we first started practice in October, he was like that. Then he wasn't explosive. He was playing below the rim, getting his shot blocked. He was frustrated. Consequently, then I'm playing other people, he's not getting as many minutes." more

  • Insight Bowl Media Conference, Dec. 5, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We'll look forward to the upcoming month. It's going to be a real busy month for us, a lot of work to do certainly with the football team, and our guys are going to be very busy with finals like all college students across the country, and once the finals are over we'll really get serious about getting ready for the game. But we're just excited about the opportunity and looking forward to hopefully a great trip to Arizona." more

  • Bluder Post-Game Media Conference, Dec. 5, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Morgan held her to one field goal second half, had five blocks in the night. I thought Morgan did a really good job. She was hurting us in the first half. I thought Morgan did a good job in the second half on her." more

  • McCaffery Weekly Media Conference, Dec. 2, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We had worked Devyn Marble to get him ready, and I think what he's proven so far is that he's a gamer. He's got some talent. He can score. He's not afraid. He sticks his nose in there on the glass and rebounds the ball. He is going to be aggressive offensively." more

  • Bluder Weekly Media Conference, Dec. 1, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "So we're just looking at this as a great opportunity. We also need to not go in there stressed out that we have to win this game. We just need to go in and play great disciplined basketball, good Iowa basketball, And whatever happens will happen. We really don't have a whole lot to lose going into this game. We have everything to gain in my opinion. Then, of course, coming back and facing Kansas State is another great opportunity for us. Somebody from the Big 12 conference." more

  • McCaffery Post-Game Media Conference, Nov. 27, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think Bryce from day one has been spectacular. It was great having both of them, because one could play while the other one was out, or they could play together. We've done that with them. And I kind of like playing Bryce over there a little bit, too, with Cully at the 1. But we won't be able to do that for a while." more

  • Ferentz: Weekly Media Conference, Nov. 23, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We've played well. Two of those three years we were really fortunate, because we couldn't put the ball in the end zone last year. Three years ago it was really a struggle as well. We didn't move the ball well that day. It's a good thing that we have been able to do that. Hopefully we'll see that this week too. But it won't be easy. The quarterback's a good player. They've got a lot of guys that are talented and good receivers, and solid backs. It will be a challenge." more

  • Ferentz: Ohio State Post-Game Media Conference, Nov. 20, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, I'm not real big on that game, I guess. Especially since the guys played hard and competed. I don't know that they could have played any harder. Our guys couldn't have. We didn't do some things well enough to win. They played hard and competed, and that's all you can ask against a very good team." more

  • Bluder Post-Game Media Conference, Nov. 20, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "All right. Well, I called no timeouts to speed this game up so everybody could get to the game on time. But I'm happy with the balanced scoring again. We're one point away from having five people in double figures. Assists again are good. We shoot the ball well from the free throw line and get there often. I love the way we dominated the boards. I thought Morgan's play was very good today. I was really happy to see her kind of come out of her shell this year and really give us a great performance there. " more

  • McCaffery: Post-Game Media Conference, Nov. 16, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I thought we fought back. I think we were up five or six. Then of course the end of the half when we go from up six, we had opportunities to get it to 10 or 12, and we got it to the rim twice, once with Jarryd, once with Bryce. Could have extended the lead. Instead, we miss Sargent on a transition, run right by him, he hits a three. We had him kind of buttoned up to that point. That's the kind of thing that gets a guy like him going. He's a terrific player. Needs one to get be comfortable." Ferentz: Weekly Media Conference, Nov. 16, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "That's up to him. He's made a lot of big plays. He has improved. I think that's a real fair assessment. The good news is he's got potential to really to continue to improve. He's having a good year right now. We all think he can play at a higher level. He'd be the first to tell you that. We'll let that play out, too." more

  • Bluder: Weekly Media Conference, Nov. 15, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, she definitely knows it. She understands how valuable she is to our team. She's playing more minutes this year than she probably has in the previous years just because she is so important in that role of backing up both of those positions." more

  • McCaffery, Post-Game Media Conference, Nov. 14, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We just have to know and understand how to do a better job late game. How do you manage a five point deficit, how do you manage a three point lead. Our pressure wasn't what it needed to be down the stretch. We've got to be able to make our free throws so we can get into the press. Three times we made the front, missed the second, couldn't get into the press. We had some things we were working on that we wanted to try to do to disrupt them. Instead, they're just getting it outlet, we have to guard their stuff again. We'll get better in those areas." more

  • McCaffery, Weekly Media Conference, Nov. 10, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "So when a team like that comes in to a Big Ten arena, they kind of need all their people, especially those with size. There are two 6'7" guys that are out, he's playing four small ones. We should have been able to exploit them inside. We should have been able to get some second shot opportunities." more

  • Ferentz, Iowa-Northwestern Weekly Media Conference, Nov. 9, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Sunday was his first day in the office and it was great seeing him, great to hear his voice. He had a few comments to make about things in general, so that was good. Got a good sense of humor about everything. I think he's excited to be back." more

  • McCaffery, Exhibition Post-Game Media Conference, Nov. 7, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "When you look at 15 assists and two turnovers from our point guard position, our big guys were involved. We pushed it. Our decision making was pretty good on the break. When to give it up, when to go, when to pull it back." more

  • Bluder, Exhibition Post-Game Media Conference, Nov. 7, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We took care of the basketball. We did a good job on the boards, both offensively and defensively. I just thought it was a really good first effort. There's a couple of things defensively we need to work on. We need to improve our zone. We need to work on containing the drive. But we've got three days before we tip off for real. But I think this was a very good first time out for us." more

  • Brands: Iowa Wrestling Media Day, Nov. 4, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "And that's where we have a group of freshmen that have to have that same sense of urgency, so that's why I mentioned those freshmen, as well. We could see action from them or we couldn't. But regardless, they're going to be on the mat in some capacity, whether it's unattached or not." more

  • Bluder: Weekly Media Conference, Nov. 4, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Absolutely. Morgan has gotten stronger. Again, I think I saw the biggest jump in the weight room with Morgan and Jaime. Those two players over the summer made the biggest jump for us. It's going to help her. It's going to help her battle in the paint a little bit a lot more than it was last year, but I think it also gives her confidence. We all know that so much of this basketball game, and she's really worked hard at her right and left hand hook shot, and it's paying off for her." more

  • McCaffery: Weekly Media Conference, Nov. 3, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, I think you look at it two ways. Obviously you still have some needs. We need a little bit of size. But the one thing you're able to do is evaluate your own team as you then legitimately understand what your needs are. You think you know, but you never really know till you get in there. Sometimes you recruit two classes before you ever coach a game. This gives us an opportunity to take our other two scholarships and really make an impact on who does what this year." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Indiana Weekly Media Conference, Oct. 30, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "They've got excellent receivers, good scheme, very well conceived scheme. They were a good offensive football team a year ago, they're building on that. When you have a fifth year quarterback like that, that helps. They've got some excellent receivers, too, as they did in the past. That's been a problem for us matching up with those guys." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Michigan State Post-Game Media Conference, Oct. 30, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "But I thought Thursday, I thought our guys really were very sharp in practice. It looked like a good way to finish the week and conclude it. It's always good to come off the field Thursday feeling good about our execution. I thought everybody was wired in. They were ready to go today." more

  • Bluder: Big Ten Media Day, Oct. 28, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We're excited to begin the year. Here it is, Big Ten Media Day. That means it is right around the corner. I think our team is starting practices earlier this year, and we're ready to put on the uniform and get ready to go." more

  • McCaffery: Big Ten Media Day, Oct. 28, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "He's a freshman. I think Dev has really come on, especially in about the last five or six practices. The first five or six he was playing like a freshman. And he just does not have that luxury. Especially now. So I feel good about him. And it will be a tremendous opportunity for him to play if Matt can't. If Matt can, then he'll be back in a month." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Michigan State Weekly Media Conference, Oct. 26, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah, never done it totally, but see what happens. Not to be dramatic, but we are going to try to tinker and try to position guys as best we can at least in our estimation and hopefully we can develop consistency and I think that's what we are looking right now is consistency." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Wisconsin Post-Game Media Conference, Oct. 23, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Again, they've got a very veteran group up there, quarterback that's a fifth year senior, excellent offensive line, good backs. They're going to move the football on everybody." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Wisconsin Weekly Media Conference, Oct. 19, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I don't know. To me the game is important regardless. If we weren't playing for a trophy, it would still be a very, very significant importance. All it means is that trophy's going to sit somewhere for a little bit longer. But I don't think anybody's going to be thinking about that on Saturday." more

  • McCaffery: UI Men's Basketball Media Day, Oc.t 14, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Cully could play the 2 a little bit. We could kind of have a little bit of a throwback backcourt where you have two guards, and either one can push it, either one can fill the lane. They both can score, more slashing. I think Cully's jumper looks good, so he would probably be the guy that would move over if he played with Bryce." more

  • Bluder: UI Women's Basketball Media Day, Oc.t 11, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Last year we were able to sneak up on a couple of people with everybody assuming that we lost most of our lineup to graduation. This year I don't think we'll be sneaking up on anybody. I think we'll have a target on our back this year, and we've tried to prepare our team for that." more

  • O'Keefe/Parker: Bye Week Offense/Defense Discussion, Oc.t 7, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "It all depends on what the game plan is going to be like. I think to a certain degree where and where Adam is from a rep standpoint. So there's variables that are involved there. But whether it's Marcus Coker or Brad Rogers or Adam Robinson, it'll all depend on really how Adam is doing because he's the guy with the experience, he's the guy that kind of is going to carry the load for us at this stage." - Ken O'Keefe . more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Penn State Weekly Post-Game Media Conference, Oct. 2, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Nothing easy, again, in this game, and certainly when you can come up with some goal line stands we had a couple last year that really helped us win football games. To stop them on 4th down, that was a huge play. Our field position wasn't so good in that second half, but we'll take that one. We'll take it on the 1 if it keeps them out of the end zone, so a real tribute to our players again for doing a nice job." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Penn State Weekly Media Conference, Sept. 28, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think there's anticipation and excitement for everybody. First four games, different challenge. That's one thing about being in a conference. That was new to me when I got here. I played in a conference when I was in college. But when I was at Pitt in 1980, we were not a member of a conference. It was a different feel. We played a random schedule geographically. Things didn't all connect that way." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Ball State Post-Game Media Conference, Sept. 25, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I thought we played better. We can still do some things to improve some more. Certainly on the kickoff team we made some strides. I think it looks like our attitude is a little better, and little smarter in terms of being in the lanes and that type of thing." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Ball State Weekly Media Conference, Sept. 21, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "From our vantage point we have to first get ready for Ball State, and start our preparations this afternoon getting ready for them and secondly, bigger picture wise, we need to do a better job correcting the areas we are coming up short in right now - get those things corrected, and then hopefully fortify it at some given point and so that's a process, too." more

  • Ferentz: Iowa-Arizona Weekly Media Conference, Sept. 14, 2010
