IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "They were terrific, I thought. Mike was solid the whole game. Kept pushing it, played great defense. I thought Woodbury was terrific. He got it going defensively in the second half. That's because he runs and he's always where he's supposed to be." more

When she made that first three, I was really excited, but then I was even more excited when I saw her take the ball to the hole, because you never know about that aspect of your game coming off the injury that she did, and I just was thrilled to see her take the ball to the hole hard, and got my Jaime Printy back, so I'm pretty happy." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I'm concerned about everything right now offense, defense, special teams and just how we play collectively. That's our task. It won't be easy this week. It's another high tempo group the third week in a row. So if there's a positive in that, at least we're catching it all in one stretch here. It just gets down to us playing better collectively, and I'm confident we'll do that." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think the first two games we struggled. I think after that, we started making some real progress and then we played a very good defensive football team last week and played a real good defensive team tonight. We definitely struggled tonight. We didn't block them well, execute well, run or pass. We couldn't get anything going tonight, at all, period." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We're anchoring that with Sam Logic. Again, Sam will be our leader on the floor. Last year she was a unanimous All Big Ten selection to the Big Ten team. She started every game for us last year. She led our team in assists, as you would expect of your point guard, but she also led our team in rebounds, which just shows you the physical style and the grit that she plays with." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Just following up on John Campbell. John's just such a tremendous guy, so I certainly want to wish him all the best. I didn't realize until just now, Steve told me he had made that official. Our best to John. I've got a lot of respect for him certainly." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "He's a very big guy and a powerful guy. Yet he's mentally talented. You've seen him hurdle guys, pretty impressive for any back. But you think about a guy with his size, to have that athleticism, so he's a real challenge. If you break down at all and somebody misses a gap to break down that kind of thing, he can really hurt you, and he can run with some speed too. It's a real challenge for us." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "This is about the halfway mark during the season, even though we've played five games, we had three weeks of two a days and most of the practice is already halfway over. So it was a good break for our kids to get them back healthy, an opportunity to work some of the younger guys on defense and see where they fit into our plans for the rest of the season." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The line James got us in the right play, the line picked up to start well. Keenan made it from a 12 yard play into a 30 yard play, and he was actually excited after the play. I told him the only reason I showed the play is that's the first time he's ever been excited about a block in his life. But he has really done a good job." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Certainly not much fun for us out there today. I tell our team all the time, we get what we deserve, and that's what we got today. As did Central; they deserved the win. They played the full 60 and made the plays you have to make to come out victorious. Give them credit. We certainly give them credit and they played extremely hard. The little things affected us, a lot of little errors during the course of the game, soft drives certainly did. Our protection was better today, just in general terms; that was an improvement. But obviously we didn't finish drives again, the ones that we did have. Got to throw it a couple of times but couldn't sustain it. And then obviously the biggest situation, it was ball down inside the five and we couldn't punch it in." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think they've had a good attitude, good work ethic, and as we move forward the keys for this football team I think are going to be improvement, and that's true with any team, any organization, but certainly our football team right now, and also developing consistency, and those things are a lot easier to talk about than do, and that's where we're at right now. We're in a very, very important phase of this team's development." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, we've had a great start. We've had eight practices now. For the most part, we've got the majority of the offense in. Kind of the goal for the spring is to do a couple things: One, we wanted to get the offense installed; two, we wanted to use the time to find out where our strengths were. Then, from there, we can move the focus of the offense in the proper direction." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Good to have everybody here. I'm glad to hear about Bob doing well. I know everybody is concerned about him. He's a great guy. Glad he's doing better. Hope everybody is able to make it in the building. We have a lot of things going on around here, makes it tricky to get into work right now, but we're certainly excited about the indoor facility going up. IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You know, the bulk of our turnovers came seemingly at the end of the first half. They went 1 3 1 we had no problem with it. Then they amped up the intensity of it. Then we started going side to side, and we just weren't seeing the guys that were open. The same guys that we saw in the second half were much better. So it's unfortunate, I feel bad, because the guys worked at it. They were concentrating. They just got a little sideways." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Was really solid, wasn't it? One of the most incredible things I've ever seen, right from the beginning. The first two he made, I mean, he got it off so quick. I mean, they were on him. He made seven in the last game, they were on him. They do a great job with scouting. He just pulled the trigger. Once he got going, he was on fire, yeah." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Really pleased with the class overall. We certainly felt like we had some needs to meet and tried to address, and I think we did a good job with that. I think overall the entire class, all 24 guys signed right now, we feel really good about them having a role in the future with us, most importantly, I think they're good fits with our program. I think that is the number one thing that we look for." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Well, I can't tell you about a happy locker room that was and deserved it. I'm so happy for this group, because it's been a tough January. You know, you play eight teams that are in the Top 25, we finally got one." more

And you look at the league, top to bottom, same thing. I mean, very few leagues have the top two teams with at least two losses and everybody with at least two wins." more

But they're certainly a team that we have to play our best basketball in order to get them tomorrow night." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Offensively, I thought even early when he was missing, he was taking great looks and they all looked like they were going to go in, and then he got hot. He made big shots late when we needed them, free throws late when we needed them. And just an incredibly complete game with phenomenal effort focusing concentration and really proud of him." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "You can double team anybody and get the ball out of his hands, but the question then becomes: What do you do from there?
For us, we've got to rotate and do two things: contain penetration and contest shooters, which is very difficult which you're spread out like that." more

We ended up out rebounding them for the game. We out rebounded them in the second half I think by four. Five turnovers for the game. You know they're going to press late if they're behind, which they did. So we handled the pressure." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think what concerns me is the guy or guys that's who's scoring. We're spending time talking about games. He comes into the game now he's a hard cutter now because he's averaging 20 shots a game, averaging 22 points a game. They really go to him, and the point guard does a real good job, one, of getting him the ball." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Yeah. You know, if you remember, I had been talking about how he had been shooting the basketball from the start of practice, consistently. And he's been between 55 and 60 percent collectively over that period of time." more

You try to maybe say it a little bit differently, but it's hard when you have the same philosophy and you're coaching guys that are about that philosophy. Then they buy into that philosophy and sounds like a broken record because it's about distancing yourself from the opponent." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "He was able to go through non contact on Monday, did a little more yesterday on his own. Probably it was a day off for us, so I didn't see him. Very different in terms of schemes offensively and defensively, but they're alike in that you both have an identity, they both have an approach, and they really do a great job within their approach. They've got a bunch of good players in all phases, and they're very, very well coached, and they play well. They beat the team that we just beat by a couple touchdowns earlier. So that just gives you an idea of the level of difficulty here" more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The key thing for us right now is to learn, and then we'll have to move on because we're playing a really good football team in Pitt this week. They've got a new staff. Todd Graham has done a great job throughout his career. They've got Big Ten experience on that staff, with at least three at least that I can count off the top of my head who have experience in the conference and have played against us. So they'll be familiar with the surroundings and the team and all that type of thing." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "The conditions were more than unusual, so it's probably a good learning experience from that standpoint. Certainly got some opportunity to work with a wet ball and experiencing a delay, that type of thing. Hopefully it won't happen again this year, but you never know. IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We're not going to win football games like that. It's ironic, I was talking with the announcers yesterday, they were complimenting us. We've done a pretty good job last couple years with turnover margin. We didn't help ourselves there today. End of the day, that's going to get us beat. We're not a good enough team where we're going to be able to give up any quarter at all. That's one area we have to do a better job with. If that ball is on the ground, you're putting it up to a risk, leaving it to a referee's interpretation. First and foremost, that's on the top of my list." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Just a couple words about Tennessee Tech. They're a veteran football team. I don't know if we've played a team that's more veteran. Twenty-one returning starters, that's not including their specialists. They're really veteran. I think they're a team that's really made strides. In all the things that you read out of their camp right now, they feel really good about their football team and I think rightfully so." more
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "We don't have a senior class that approaches the numbers we had last year and 2002, our two largest classes, but we've got an excellent group that's ready to not only play well, but take a leadership role with our football team. So we're excited about that." more

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "I think for our conditioning, J.C. Moreau, our strength and conditioning coach, has done a good job like he always does. But I think any you're out performing your opponent that consistently in the second half, it shows that mentally you're in it for 40 minutes and you're able to get it done. When you think we held them to four field goals in the second half, three assists for the game, those are some pretty impressive numbers. I thought their intensity was very, very good for 40 minutes, maybe one of the best defensive efforts I've seen." more
