Nathan Mundt

Nathan Mundt is in his third season as assistant coach for the Hawkeye swimming team. In 2009-10, Mundt helped the Hawkeyes establish seven new program records. The Hawkeye men recorded a sixth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, Iowa's highest finish in 14 years. After completing the season with a 10-1 dual mark, the men have combined for a 17-2 dual meet record over the last two seasons. The women were named to the College Swimming Coaches Assocation of American all-academic team for the fifth straight year, and 28 Hawkeyes earned Academic all-Big Ten honors. Mundt also coached Paul Gordon, who represented the Hawkeyes at the 2009 World Championships Trials & U.S. Nationals. In his first season at Iowa, the Hawkeye women set school records in four individual events and three relays, while the men's squad set school bests in two individual events. The Hawkeyes posted NCAA "B" cuts in seven individual events and five relays. The Iowa men posted their best dual record since 1995 with a 7-1 mark, and went undefeated (4-0) at their own Field House pool. The women were named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) all-academic team for the fourth straight year, and 25 Hawkeyes earned academic all-Big Ten honors. Mundt joined the Iowa staff after serving as the head men's and women's swimming coach at Western Illinois University. He was named the 2006-07 Mid-Continent Conference Women's Coach of the Year. He coached swimmers to 13 school record-setting marks and six athletes to 12 Summit League individual event championships. A native of Portage, IN, Mundt was a four-year letterwinner and academic all-conference honoree at the University of Tampa while earning a B.A. in Sport Management. Mundt served as a graduate assistant coach at Valparaiso University from 2003-2005 and was named Interim Head Coach for the 2003-04 season. Mundt also added a M.S. in Sports Administration while at Valparaiso. He and his wife, Erika, currently reside in Coralville. |
