Outdoor - Big Ten javelin champion (235-4, 71.73m), helping team to first Big Ten title since 1967... set school javelin record with winning throw of 245-8 (74.89m) at LSU Invite... placed fourth in javelin at Drake Relays (223-5, 68.10m), third at Sun Angel Classic (207-11 1/2, 63.39m) and 19th at NCAA West Regional (211-4, 64.41m). 2010 -- Indoor - did not compete... Outdoor- Big Ten Champion in the javelin (220-6, 67.22m)...first team all-Big Ten honoree...threw a collegiate-best 232-2 (70.76m) in his freshman debut...this ranks second all-time at Iowa...placed third at Drake Relays (205-8, 62.69m) and Musco Twilight XI (205-0 3/4, 62.50m) High School -- member of 2009 USA Pan-American team... two-time runner-up in javelin at USA Junior National Championships... two-time conference javelin champion, placing second at state meet twice... set school javelin record (219-8)... also lettered three years in basketball... coached by Brian Byers and Mike Draut. Personal -- born November 12, 1990... son of Brian and Debbie Byers... American studies major.
