AMES, Iowa - University of Iowa track and field senior Kyle Reid broke the school record in the men's heptathlon Friday at the Bill Bergan Invitational. The multi-event competition was held at the Lied Recreational Center on the Iowa State University campus.

Reid recorded personal best marks in the 60-meter hurdles and 1,000 meters in route to a school record setting heptathlon point total of 5,257. Reid finished first in the 1,000 when he crossed the line in 2:39.34, while his hurdles time of 8.55 secured a fifth place finish. He tied for first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 15-9 (4.80m). Reid finished fourth overall.

Junior Jack Eckert also competed in the men's heptathlon. Eckert finished ninth in the competition with a total of 4,963 points. That total ranks fourth all-time at Iowa. Eckert recorded personal best times in the 60-meter hurdles and the 1,000 meters. He ran to a second place finish in the 1,000 with a time of 2:40.12, while he finished eighth in the hurdles (8.83). Eckert also competed in the pole vault where he finished fourth with a vault of 15-1 (4.60m).

Sophomore Sarah Ryan recorded personal best marks in the shot put and long jump to earn a fourth place finish in the women's pentathlon. She finished second in the long jump with a leap of 18-8 (5.69m), while she recorded a fourth place finish in the shot put with a toss of 34-2 (10.41m). Her long jump mark ranks ninth all-time at Iowa. She ran to a sixth place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.76, and clocked a time of 9.20 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish seventh. She finished 10th in the high jump with a leap of 4-10 ¼ (1.48m). Ryan tallied a total of 3,439 points. That total ranks fifth all-time at Iowa.

Khanishah Williams cleared a personal best height of 5-10 (1.78m) to take first in the high jump. That mark ranks third all-time at Iowa. She recorded a sixth place finish in the long jump (15-6; 4.72m), and a 10th place finish in the shot put (26-9; 8.15m). Williams crossed the 800 meters line in 2:38.21 to finish seventh, and posted a time of 9.38 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish ninth. Williams finished sixth overall with a total of 3,273 points. That total ranks 10th all-time at Iowa.

Freshman Kassidy Ellis also competed in the women's pentathlon. She finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.96, while her personal best 60-meter hurdles time of 9.11 secured a fifth place finish. She recorded seventh-place finishes in the shot put (29-7 ¼; 9.02) and long jump (15-5; 4.70m). Both were personal best marks. She also finished eighth in the high jump when she cleared a height of 4-11 ½ (1.51m). Ellis finished seventh overall with a total of 3,182 points.

The Bill Bergan Invitational resumes Saturday, Jan. 26, at 9:30 a.m. (CT).
