AMES, Iowa - The University of Iowa track and field team posted three personal-bests in day two of the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. The meet was held at the Lied Recreation Center on the campus of Iowa State University. No team scores were kept.

Neil Flattery took the men's unseeded 800 meters title. The sophomore clocked a personal-best time of 1:52.66. Senior Nathan Prom finished 11th in the event with a time of 1:59.29. Freshman Katharina Trost grabbed a 12th-place finish in the women's seeded 800 meters. Trost posted a time of 2:09.85.

Freshman Kevin Docherty knocked Director of Track and Field Larry Wieczorek out of Iowa's all-time top ten list with his performance in the men's 3,000 meters. Docherty clocked a personal-best time of 8:16.58 to finish third. His time ranks 10th all-time at Iowa. Junior Ben Witt finished eighth in the event when he crossed the line in 8:23.50. Juniors Shannon Maser (14th; 10:12.12) and Jocelyn Todd (16th; 10:13.52) competed in the women's event.

"We had some outstanding performances in both meets (Iowa State and Arkansas) this weekend," said Wieczorek. "Overall, we put together some of the pieces to becoming a better track and field team."

Caleb Wilfong finished fourth in the men's mile. The sophomore crossed the line in 4:15.41. Junior Rachel Price competed in the women's mile. Price clocked a personal-best time of 5:02.05 to finish 29th.

Junior Gabe Hull earned a fifth-place finish in the men's shot put. Hull recorded a toss of 57-2 ¼ (17.43m). Senior Drew Clark (51-8 ¼; 15.75) and redshirt freshman Avery Meyers (50-11 ½; 15.53m) finished 14th and 15th, respectively.

Kerry Dean Jr. grabbed a seventh-place finish in the men's triple jump. The sophomore recorded a leap of 45-8 (13.92m).

"We had quite a few seasonal bests, lifetime bests and all-time top ten performances at both meets today," said head coach Layne Anderson. "This gives us some great momentum with two weeks remaining to the Big Ten Indoor Championships."

The Hawkeyes host the Iowa Invitational on Feb. 21.
