IOWA CITY, Iowa - Former University of Iowa cross country and track and field standout Diane Nukuri raced to a fourth place finish in the Los Angeles Marathon Sunday, March 20. Nukuri finished the 26.2-mile course in 2:33.47 to pass the Olympic "A" Standard. She is now eligible to compete for Burundi in the 2012 London Olympics.
Nikuri was a three-time cross country All-American while competing for the Hawkeyes from 2006-08. She won the conference title and was named Big Ten Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2007. She is the school record holder in four cross country events and four track and field events.
Nukuri continues to train in Iowa City with women's head cross country coach Layne Anderson.
"We get excited any time an alum does great things," said Anderson. "But because Diane continues to train at Iowa and is putting in the miles in our city streets makes it that much more special."
