IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa freshman Brittany Brown will represent the United States as a 400-meter relay alternate at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on July 22-27.
Brown qualified for the team at the USATF Junior Championships on July 5-6. The Upland, California, native finished third in the women's 200 meters when she crossed the line in 23.10. Brown broke the 200 meters school record at the NCAA West Preliminary on May 31. Her time of 22.95 is currently the third-best junior time in the world.
"I thought she did great and competed well," said assistant coach Clive Roberts. "Unfortunately she got beat by some great competitors, but I'm excited for her to represent the United States in the 400-meter relay. Her future is bright."
Brown also anchored the women's 400-meter relay team that broke the school record (44.51) and captured the Drake Relays flag on April 26.
The IAAF World Junior Championships is set for July 22-27. The women's 400-meter relay team is scheduled to compete in the prelims on July 25 at 6:05 p.m. (CT). The finals follow on July 26 at 5:20 p.m. (CT).
