LOUSIVILLE, Ky. - University of Iowa graduate student Mareike Schrulle ran to a seventh place finish at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The NCAA Championships was held at the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.

Schrulle earned all-America honors when she crossed the 6,000-meter line in a personal best time of 19:43. Schrulle's time ranks second all-time at Iowa. Oregon tallied 114 points to earn the women's team title, while Iowa State's Betsy Saina posted a time of 19:27 to take the individual title.

"It was a magnificent performance for a magnificent runner," head women's cross country coach Layne Anderson said. "This is our fourth top ten finisher since 2006, and a well-deserved achievement on her part. To race the best in collegiate distance running and finish seventh is tremendous."

The Hawkeye track and field team opens the indoor season Jan. 12 hosting the Iowa Open.
