The University of Iowa men's and women's cross country teams head to the Bradley Open on Friday. The event will be held at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Ill. The three mile women's race is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. The men's 6K will follow at 6:15 p.m.
IN THE RANKINGS
Both the men's and women's cross country teams are ranked in the USTFCCCA Regional rankings. The women's team is ranked fifth in the Midwest Region, while the men are ranked ninth. The women also received four votes in the national poll.
LAST TIME OUT
The men's and women's cross country teams each grabbed titles at the Western Illinois Early Bird Open on Aug. 31. The men tallied a team score of 18, while the women turned in a score of 21.
LEWIS TAKES TITLE
Sophomore Kevin Lewis won the Western Illinois Early Bird Open on Aug. 31. Lewis clocked a personal best 6,000 meter time of 18:35. The win marked Lewis' second individual title of his career. He won his first championship at the 2011 Iowa Invitational.
REHN EARNS FIRST TITLE
Junior Katherin Rehn took the women's title at the Western Illinois Early Bird Open. Rehn recorded a personal best 4,000 meter time of 14:51 to earn the first individual title of her career.
Graduate student Mareike Schrulle, seniors Nicole Benson and Kelsey Hart, junior Megan Ranegar, and sophomore Kayla Beattie all return to the course this Friday. Beattie received all-Region honors last year after her 17th place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional (21:32). Beattie was also Iowa's top finisher at the 2011 Loyola Lakefront Invitational (17:29). Hart was Iowa's top finisher in both the Iowa Open (3rd) and Iowa Invitational (1st).
The Hawkeyes will return to action Sept. 21 at the Toledo Bubble Buster in Toledo, Ohio.
