IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa graduate student Mareike Schrulle was recognized Tuesday as the Big Ten Conference's Runner of the Week.

Schrulle was the first Hawkeye to cross the finish line at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last weekend. She clocked a personal best 6,000-meter time of 19:57 to finish 12th overall. That time ranks third all-time at Iowa.

The weekly honor is the first of her career and the second for the Hawkeyes this season. Freshman Kayla Beattie earned Runner of the Week honors Sept. 11.

Schrulle and the Hawkeyes return to action Oct. 28 at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships in East Lansing, Mich.
