IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The USTFCCCA announced today that University of Iowa senior Megan Ranegar and graduate student Mareike Schrulle earned NCAA All-Region honors following their performances at the 2012 NCAA Midwest Regional last weekend. It is the first regional award for either individual.

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored the top 25 individuals from each NCAA Regional. The Big Ten had 29 women earn All-Region honors, more than any other conference.

"Both Mareike and Megan raced at a level reflective of their training and competitive season," said head women's cross country coach Layne Anderson. "Mareike advances on and Megan can use this momentum from the cross country season to pursue a historical track and field season for herself."

Schrulle placed third overall in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 20:09, while Ranegar earned a 15th place finish with a time of 21:07. Their performances led Iowa to a sixth place finish in the 31-team race. Schrulle's third place effort automatically qualifies her for the 2012 NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. The 6,000-meter race begins Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT).
