Position:
Volunteer Assistant Coach

Spencer Allen enters his first season at the University of Iowa as a volunteer assistant coach. Allen will be responsible for outfield instruction and will coach first base on game days. Allen will also serve as the Iowa baseball camp director.

Allen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001 from Iowa State University where he was a three-year starter at second base. In 1999, Allen was part of a Big 12 record-breaking double play combination and in 2001 was named a captain on the first team in Iowa State history to reach the Big 12 tournament.

After completing a collegiate career that included a first-team Academic All-American selection and multiple scholar athlete awards, Allen served as an associate scout for the Kansas City Royals from 2001-2003. Under the eye of veteran scout Greg Smith, Allen gained experience writing evaluation reports and running prospect workouts.

While serving his three-year tenure with the Royals, Allen was able to gain valuable coaching experience with Connie Mack's Northern Reign Baseball Club and Edmonds Community College. Allen's responsibilities in the coaching ranks included recruitment and assessment of players, infield and outfield instruction, organizing baseball camps and guest speaking at coaching clinics.
