10/31/2011 Fall ImprovementThe UI baseball team showed growth during its fall season 10/09/2011 Hawkeyes Tie Missouri in Joplin Benefit GameIowa traveled to Missouri for two-game exhibition series over the weekend 2011 Academic All-Big Ten Hawk Item -- Played summer ball in the Cape Cod League with the Hyannis Mets (2010, 2011)... selected in Major League Baseball's 2011 First-Year Player Draft by the Colorado Rockies in the 29th round (888th pick). 2011 Honors -- Academic All-Big Ten selection. 2011 -- Started all 14 games he appeared... finished with a record of 4-6... registered a 4.15 ERA, allowing 39 earned runs in 84.2 innings pitched... the 84.2 innings pitched are the 13th most in a season in school history and ranked eighth in the Big Ten... recorded 75 strikeouts, which ties for tenth-most in a season in Iowa history... the 75 strikeouts led the conference... recorded one shutout against Indiana (Apr. 17), allowing one run in the victory... went at least five innings in 12 of his 14 starts... allowed two runs or less in nine of his 14 outings... won four straight starts against Western Illinois, Michigan State, Illinois and Indiana from Mar. 27-Apr. 17... 25 batters struck out looking against the lefty, the third most in the Big Ten... ranked eighth in the Big Ten in conference games only with 53 innings pitched and second in number of batters struck out looking (17)... notched a 3.45 ERA at home and a 3.40 ERA in conference games... ranked second on the team in innings pitched per appearance (6.05) and third in strikeouts per nine innings (7.97)... tied for third on the team in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.9)... lefties batted .281 and righties hit .259 against the left-hander. 2010 -- Appeared in 10 games with seven starts... finished with a 7.93 ERA... started an elimination game vs. Purdue at the Big Ten Tournament and picked up the win after going six innings... in the tournament triumph (May 22) he allowed only two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts... earned his first career win Coe at the Corridor Classic (May 4)... his three wins tied for fourth-most on the team... seven starts tied for fourth-most on the pitching staff... opponents hit .318 off the lefty, the fifth-lowest average on the team... tied for third with a .600 win-loss percentage.
