IOWA CITY -- The Iowa baseball team dropped game two of this weekend's three-game series to Indiana, 5-1, at Duane Banks Field Saturday. The Hawkeyes were held to a season-low two hits on the afternoon by Hoosier hurler, Eric Arnett. Arnett threw a complete game, striking out a career-high 11 batters. The Black and Gold left seven runners on base, five of which were in scoring position.

Despite getting the loss, Hawkeye southpaw Jarred Hippen threw another great game for Iowa. Hippen gave up all five runs on seven hits in seven innings pitched. The bullpen featured Steve Turnbull and Kyle Heim. The two relievers pitched two innings and allowed only one hit, striking out three.

"I felt Jarred Hippen battled it out on the mound today," Head Coach Jack Dahm said. "He gave us everything he had and should have had a shot at getting a win. That being said, Eric Arnett out competed us on the mound and showed great confidence."

Iowa (11-19, 2-6) took a 1-0 lead in the second on back-to-back doubles, its only two hits of the ballgame. With one out, T.J. Cataldo picked up a double down the right field line and scored on a Ryan Durant double also down the right field line.

Indiana (15-17, 5-2) took the lead in the fourth plating three runs for a 3-1 advantage. The inning featured a leadoff Josh Phegley home run and an Evan Crawford two-RBI single. The Hoosiers clinched the game in the eighth, scoring two for a 5-1 final.

Tomorrow, freshman Phil Schreiber will make his Big Ten debut on the mound--facing the Hoosier's Matt Bashore.

Iowa will compete against Indiana in the series finale tomorrow at Duane Banks field. First pitch is set for 1:36 p.m. and will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network (HD).
