    LINCOLN, NE-- The Iowa baseball team lost against Nebraska tonight, 8-5, at Hawks Field. The Husker offense got started early and never faltered--scoring in four different frames.

    Kody McManis led Iowa offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Justin Toole went 2-for-5 with a run scored and double and Ryan Durant extended his hit-streak to nine games.

    The Huskers (17-18-1) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and never faded. Nebraska plated three in the third, two in the seventh and one in the eighth to win 8-4. Combined Cody Asche, Adam Bailey and Jeff Tezak went 9-for-12 with five runs scored and six RBI to lead Nebraska.

    Iowa (11-21) scored four runs in the fourth inning to trail 5-4. The inning started with a Toole double down the left field line. One out later, Wes Freie reached base on a hit-by-pitch and T.J. Cataldo drew a walk to load the bases. Durant picked up an RBI after reaching on a fielding error by the centerfielder. With the bases loaded, Mike McQuillan drove in a run on a single through the right side and McManis knocked in two runs with a single up the middle. The Hawkeyes tried to get a ninth inning rally going, however, came up short only plating one for a final 8-5 score.

    Starter Michael Jacobs got the loss allowing five runs on five hits. The Hawkeye bullpen featured: Patrick Schatz, Steve Turnbull and Kyle Heim. Schatz had a great outing, going three and two-third innings and facing the minimum 11 batters. He allowed only one hit and struck out three.

    Iowa is scheduled to go to Evanston, IL to play Northwestern in a three-game series. Game one is set for Friday at 3 p.m. and will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network (HD).
