Iowa held Western Kentucky to 33 percent shooting from the field. The Hawkeyes have held all five of their opponents to below 40 percent shooting from the floor.
Melsahn Basabe netted eight of his season-high 11 points in the second half against the Hilltoppers. Basabe also finished with five rebounds and four blocks. The four blocks mark the second time this season the junior rejected four shots (Central Michigan).
Iowa played 10 players in all five games this season.
Iowa attempted 20 free throws (made 15) against Western Kentucky. The Hawkeyes have attempted 20 foul shots or more all five games this year.
Last year, Iowa allowed 72.5 points per game defensively. Through five contests this season, the Hawkeye defense has improved yielding only 52.6 points.
