Iowa Summer Tour, 2009

Sophomore center Andrew Brommer:

Hey Hawk fans! This is sophomore Andrew Brommer coming to you from Athens, Greece. This city is huge and filled with lots of things to do. The food here is different from Rome. Rome's specialty is pasta and pizza and Athens is different meats, potatoes and breads. The best food that I've had in Athens is a chicken on a stick with a special sauce on it. I don't know what that sauce is called, but it tasted great.

Athens is a beautiful city. There is one hill in the middle which is called the Acropolis. This is where ancient Athens began. Back then Athens was a fairly small city. When the city became the capital of Greece the population exploded. So, in the heart of the city ancient Athens is preserved and around it is a thriving city. Then in the distance there are huge mountains that you don't get to see every day in Iowa City. Athens is also located on the ocean, which is really cool.

We just got back from our Athens One day Cruise. We had to wake up and eat breakfast at 6:30 a.m. and be on the bus ready to go at 7:30. We departed from the port on a cruise ship that held about 700 people. We went to three different islands. The first one was the most fun to me because we were able to jump off a cliff into the ocean.

Jarryd Cole was the first to jump right in and he paved the way for all of us. To my surprise Coach Lickliter jumped in! Coach was talking about doing it early that morning but I thought he was joking around and wouldn't go through with it. I was wrong. Coach jumped right in without hesitating. We didn't have much time to explore the second island and all that we really found to do was shop in the local shops and take in the breath-taking scenery. The third island is the one we had the most time to see the sights. There was a beach, so most of us spent the majority of our time on the beach and in the water. After the third island we headed back to the port of Athens.

We have won one game and lost one game. We are playing pretty good basketball. Tomorrow we play a Greece prep school team and looking forward to the chance for our second win. We don't know much about them, so check out our website to see how we did.

Thanks for your support and keep checking in!
