Iowa Summer Tour, 2009

Hi Hawk fans! Today was our first day in Athens, Greece and it has already been a great experience. We left early this morning from the beautiful city of Rome and reached our hotel about noon, leaving us the rest of the day to rest and explore and eat the wonderful food.

We haven't been able to go to the beaches yet, but after seeing them from the plane and from the bus as we made our way to the hotel, we are all very excited to go. The water is so blue. I have seen it in pictures, but seeing it in person gives it a whole new beauty.

Tonight we were able to experience our first true Greek meal and it met all expectations, just like all of our Italian meals too. John Streif is the man! The restaurant was in the city square, which is a little part of Athens that is filled with shops, restaurants, and history.

After dinner we walked around as a team and explored the city square. The people here love basketball! I don't know how many times we heard, "You play basket?" I know we are all very excited to play tomorrow. Last game was a great experience for the team. The differences between European and American basketball forced each of us to play with our minds and be more efficient.
