Joel Welsh, Jr. is in his fourth year as a strength and conditioning assistant coach at the University of Iowa. He served as an intern with the Iowa football program during the 2011 summer.
Iowa has participated in January bowl games the past two seasons, including the 2014 Outback Bowl and the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl. Iowa posted an overall 8-5 record in 2013, including a 5-3 mark in the Big Ten to tie for second in the Legends Division.
Welsh served as a graduate assistant at Springfield College in 2011-12. At Springfield he designed and implemented programs for football, men's volleyball and men's and women's tennis.
Joel was the strength and conditioning coordinator at Queens College in New York from 2007-10, where he designed and implemented programs for all 15 varsity teams. He worked as an intern at Fordham University during the winter in 2010.
Welsh is certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and certified sports performance coach from the United States of America Weightlifting (USAW).
Welsh earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2010 from Queens College. He began pursuing his master's degree in exercise science and sport studies while at Springfield College.
Joel was born May 17, 1987, in Bronx, New York. Joel and his wife, Mara, have a son, Roman.
