IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa junior wide receiver Keenan Davis caught 11 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown last season. The native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, also returned nine kickoffs for an average of 19.4 yards.

The Hawkeyes reached the halfway point of preseason camp Friday; meanwhile, Davis sat down to answer a few questions for hawkeyesports.com:

What do you anticipate to be the biggest challenge this season?
"I think the biggest challenge of the game is in the anticipation of game day and getting ready for it. Just coming out that first game and getting all the jitters out. I think we are all going to come out and compete, and I don't really think I have any worries other than coming out and being ready to play."

2011 Football graphic insert How has the transition into a leadership role gone for you?
"I feel great about it. Everyone is feeling good. There are a lot of places where you have to step up, and I think we are all growing up and ready. It's going to be a pretty fun and exciting year to watch."

How does it feel to be listed at the top of the depth chart?
"It feels good. I'm one of the old guys now. It's coming natural, and I'm feeling better with Marvin (McNutt, Jr.) and I becoming the leaders and helping the young guys out. It went fast. I remember being the youngest guy just looking up being like `oh my gosh.' But it feels good to be helping out other people and getting to know the program and getting to know the whole offense and everything. It's time to step up and grow up. "

What are your goals for the 2011 season?
"I just want to compete as hard as I can. Go out and give it all I can to help out the team."

What area of the game do you think you need to improve the most?
"I think it is just being ready for the game. I have got to step up this year, and I need to be ready to step up for the young guys when I'm needed."

The Big Ten Conference has seen a lot of changes in the last year. What are your thoughts on Nebraska joining the conference?
"It's just another team that is going to compete against us. It's going to be a good rivalry and a fun game to play. We all like good games, and it's always going to be a game against them."

Do you have any superstitions?
"No, not really. I just need to be ready come game time."

What is it like to play football at the University of Iowa?
"It's a great feeling. It's a great program to be apart of and now I'm a leader and ready to take that step."
