IOWA CITY, IA - Consensus Iowa all-American football quarterback Randy Duncan has been selected honorary captain for Saturday's season opening game against Maine. The Hawkeyes face the Black Bears in a televised game with kickoff set for 11:03 a.m. in Kinnick Stadium. Tickets still remain.

A three-year letterman (1956-58), Duncan helped Iowa to Big Ten and Rose Bowl championships in 1956 and 1958. He was the Big Ten and Iowa's Most Valuable Player in 1958. That 1958 team won the Grantland Rice Award as the nation's top team. Duncan was a consensus all-American in 1958 and finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting.

Duncan was named winner of the Walter Camp Trophy and was named College Football's Player of the Year by three organizations. He was a two-time all-Big Ten selection and led the league in passing as a senior. He is a member of the Iowa and National Football Foundation Halls of Fame.

Duncan was the first player picked in the 1959 NFL draft. He was selected by the Green Bay Packers. He never played in the NFL, instead opting for the Canadian Football League and later the old American Football League.

Duncan will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for the pre-game coin-flip. He will also be with the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and in the locker room before and after the game.
