IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes used its 37-6 victory over then fifth-ranked and undefeated Michigan State Saturday to climb two positions to No. 16 in this week's Bowl Championship Series standings.

The Hawkeyes, one of four teams sitting atop the Big Ten Conference standings, are one of four Big Ten Conference teams in the elite list: Wisconsin (9th), Ohio State (11th) and Michigan State (14th) are ahead of Iowa, who defeated Georgia Tech in last year's FedEx Orange Bowl - Iowa's second BCS game under Kirk Ferentz.

Oregon slipped past Auburn and ascended to the No. 1 position after its win Saturday at Southern Cal. Boise State, Texas Christian, and Utah round out the top five with defending national champion Alabama sitting at No. 6.

This is Iowa's 35th total appearance in the BCS poll which is now in its 13th season. This year's BCS schedule is as follows:

  • The Rose Bowl, Jan. 1, 3:30 p.m. Iowa time (ESPN)
