IOWA CITY, IA - University of Iowa linebacker Mike Klinkenborg and defensive back Adam Shada have been named to college football's first academic all-America team. The announcement came today from the sponsor of the team, ESPN The Magazine. The team is voted on by the nation's College Sports Information Directors (CoSida).

Both senior starters are repeat selections to the elite first unit. They were both first-team all-district selections during their sophomore seasons.

Klinkenborg is a native of Rock Rapids, IA. He has a 3.95 GPA in elementary education. He was Iowa's third leading tackler in 2007 with 79 stops. He is a finalist for the prestigious Draddy Award and will join 14 other finalists in New York City next week, where each will claim an $18,000 scholarship. The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) will announce that one of them as the recipient of the Draddy Trophy.

Shada, from Omaha, NE, had 56 tackles in his final season with the Hawkeyes. He has a 4.0 GPA in finance. He was named to the honorable mention all-Big Ten team.

Both Klinkenborg and Shada are three-time members of the academic all-Big Ten team.
