THE STAFF

Continuity is king, particularly in college football. Those who do their homework quickly realize that continuity is one of the keys to success.

Chris Doyle -- Iowa's strengh and conditioning coach -- puts tight end Tony Moeaki through a test during the Hawkeyes' 2010 'Pro Day.' Doyle is one of eight members of the UI football team's coaching staff who have been on campus double-digit years. In fact, he is one of five coaches who have been on Kirk Ferentz's staff from its start.

And, the football program has enjoyed unique continuity with only two head coaches in the last 32 years: Hall of Fame coach Hayden Fry for 20 years followed by the Hawkeyes' current head coach, Kirk Ferentz, who is in his 13th season as head coach at the UI. It's also Ferentz's second stint in Iowa City. He served as an assistant coach for eight season under Fry during the 1980s.

Continuity at the UI also extends deep into Ferentz's current staff. The average years of service for the 10 position and strength and conditioning coaches that report directly to Ferentz is 10 years. Like Ferentz, defensive coordinator Phil Parker, and Chris Doyle, the football program's director of strength and conditioning, all are in their 13th season in Iowa City. So, too, is position coach Eric Johnson (tight ends and recruiting coordinator).
