Hawkeyes Card Best Round Of Boilermaker Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - The University of Iowa men's golf team finished day one of the Boilermaker Invitational in third place today with a score of 573 (-3). After a first round of 293 (+5), the Hawkeyes came back and carded a 280 (-8). The 13-stroke swing was the best round shot in the 18-team field so far. Penn State is leading the competition with a score of 569 (-7). Competition is being played on the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, IN. The Hawkeyes were led by sophomore Vince India who shot a 139 (-5) and is in third place. India's second round (68, -4) included a hole-in-one on the 190-yard 13th hole. Senior Cole Peevler and sophomore Brad Hopfinger are both tied for 12th after finishing day one with a 144 (E). Hopfinger's second round of 69 (-3) was his best round of the year. Freshman Chris Brant also put together a season-best round of (71, -1) to card a 146 (+2) and finish tied for 19th. Additionally, freshman Brad George is tied for 67th after recording a 153 (+9). "I thought we were tentative this morning, but played well," said Head Coach Mark Hankins. "This afternoon, we continued to play well, but finished really strong."
