Iowa Finishes Fourth in Gopher Invite

WAYZATA, MN - The University of Iowa men's golf team finished the final round of play at the Golden Gopher Invitational today. Iowa recorded an 18-hole score of 303 (+15) on the day. The Hawkeyes finished fourth out of 12 teams with a 54-hole score of 883 (+19). Louisiana State and Texas shared the invitational title with an 872 (+8). Senior Cole Peevler led the Hawkeyes for the second straight day with a 74 (+2). Peevler finished the invite in a three-way tie for second with a 215 (-1). Vince India finished in a tie for 20th overall with a 223 (+7). The sophomore shot a 79 (+7) today. Brad Hopfinger finished in a tie for 36th overall with a 227 (+11) in his first outing as a Hawkeye. The sophomore recorded a 75 (+3) for the final round. Freshman Barrett Kelpin shot a 76 (+4) today to finish 41st overall with a 228 (+12). Additionally, Chris Brant shot a 78 (+6) today to round out the Hawkeyes. The freshman finished the invite in a tie for 42nd with a 229 (+13). "I thought we played well today considering the conditions," said Head Coach Mark Hankins. "You're only as good as you know you are and I think we gained a lot of confidence this weekend." The Hawkeyes will compete at the Virginia Commonwealth University Shootout September, 29-30.
