Hawkeyes In Second At Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, IN - The University of Iowa men's golf team is in second place Monday after the first two rounds of the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic. The Hawkeyes, on the hunt for their fourth consecutive top-five team finish this fall, recorded a 36-hole total of 590 (+30). Notre Dame is in the lead with a score of 578 (+18). Competition is being played on the 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, IN. The Hawkeyes were led by last season's low scoring average holder, Vince India. The junior is tied for 11th with a two round total of 146 (+6). Chris Brant is tied for 17th with a score of 147 (+7). Brad Hopfinger fired seven birdies and carded a 148 (+8). The junior is tied for 22nd after two rounds. Sophomore Barrett Kelpin is tied for 28th after shooting a 149 (+9). Additionally, James Reiss competed in his second career tournament Monday and is in 79th place. The junior improved four strokes between his first and second rounds on his way to a 36-hole total of 160 (+20). "We did a good job of staying patient today and continuing to battle," said Head Coach Mark Hankins. "Each round we were able to put four scores together that were pretty solid and tomorrow we'll look for five." The final round of competition will begin tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. (ET).
