DURHAM, N.C. - The University of Iowa men's golf team carded a 293 (+5) to improve their place in the overall standings from its first two rounds, moving from 10th to ninth place on the final day of the Rod Myers Invitational. The Hawkeyes scored a three-round total of 883 (+19) in the tournament.

Three of five Hawkeyes improved their scores from their second rounds. Junior Ian Vandersee, competing in his first collegiate event of the season, shot a 220 (+4) over three rounds, leading Iowa and tying for 22nd place individually.

Senior Steven Ihm returned to his usual form in the second and third rounds, after shooting a 78 (+6) in his first 18 holes. Ihm's last two rounds totaled 143 (-1), landing him in a tie for 28th place with a 221 (+5) overall score.

Junior Brian Bullington also earned a tie for 28th place after matching Ihm's three-round score. The Frankfort, Ill., native made par on 35 of his 54 holes, second most on the squad to Vandersee's 38.

Senior Ryan Marks fired a third-round score of 76 (+4) to push his three-round total to 222 (+6). Marks was the only player in the entire tournament to eagle the 573-yard, par-five seventh hole.

Freshman Carson Schaake, making his first career collegiate tournament appearance, fired a 75 (+3) in his final round. Schaake improved his score in every round and tied for 59th place.

Four of the five Iowa golfers improved their standing individually from the first day.

Iowa has two events remaining on its fall schedule, with the next being the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Atlanta, Ga., on Oct. 18-20.
