    THIS WEEK -- The University of Iowa men's golf team will travel to West Lafayette, IN, Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Boilermaker Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Purdue University and will be held at the University's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Competition consists of 54 holes. Teams will play 36 holes Saturday (8 a.m. CDT shotgun start) and 18 holes Sunday (8 a.m. CDT shotgun start).

    KAMPEN COURSE -- The Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex is the site of the tournament. It is a par 72 with a length of 7,467 yards. Additionally, this course will host the 2008 NCAA Championships, May 28-31.

    THE COMPETITION -- Teams competing, with Iowa, are Charlotte, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, Loyola (Chicago), Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin and Xavier.

    LAST MEET -- The Hawkeyes finished 11th at the Kepler Intercollegiate last weekend. The highlight of the tournament was junior Cole Peevler finishing tied for second. Peevler posted a 54-hole score of 222 (+9). It was the highest a Hawkeye golfer had finished since Peevler finished second at the Wolverine Invite in November of 2007. In addition, Todd Larson tied for 32nd with a 239 (+19). Vince India and Dan Holterhaus tied for 53rd with scores of 239 (+26) and freshman James Reiss saw the first action of his career.

    HEAD COACH Mark Hankins -- Hankins is in his first year as Iowa's head men's golf coach. He was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, at Michigan State, in 2005 and 2007 after leading the Spartans to Big Ten Championships. Hankins also led the Spartans to five NCAA tournament appearances in his seven years as head coach. He is a native of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and a graduate of Iowa State University.
