IOWA CITY, Iowa - Jack Holmgren (Corcoran, Minn.) and Sam Meuret (Brunswick, Neb.) have signed their National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Iowa next fall, announced UI head coach Mark Hankins.

"We're excited to welcome both Jack and Sam as students and athletes," said Hankins. "They are proven winners, two of the highest-ranked junior players in the Midwest, and tremendous young men. They are a great fit for our golf program, and we can look forward to immediate contributions in their first year."

Meuret, a native of Brunswick, Neb., is a three-time all-conference selection and 2013 Nebraska Class-C State Champion. He owns the lowest nine-hole record (30) and lowest season average (72.6) in Plainview Public High School history, as well as the NENAC Conference nine and 18-hole records (30, 69). In amateur play, Meuret won the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier and the Nebraska Junior title in 2013. He is currently ranked as the second best junior player in Nebraska.

Meuret, a National Honor Society member, plans to pursue a degree in business at Iowa.

"I selected Iowa because I felt very comfortable there," said Meuret. "The Tippie College of Business, Iowa City, and the golf program are a great fit for me. I knew that the University of Iowa would give me the opportunity to attend a respected business school, while playing for a highly-ranked golf team."

Holmgren is a five-year letterwinner from Corcoran, Minn., and is currently ranked No. 1 in the Minnesota Boys' Class 3A rankings. He earned medalist honors six times in his junior season, has been named all-conference the past two seasons, and has been a member of three Class 3A State Tournament Championship teams (2009, 2010, 2011) at Wayzata High School. Holmgren won the 2013 Minnesota PGA Junior Fall Showdown and the Minnesota State Junior Amateur, and finished second at the Inaugural Midwest Junior Championship.

Holmgren is a member of the Wayzata Leadership Academy, the First Tee Ace Program, and is a leader within the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plans to pursue a degree in business management.

"I chose the University of Iowa because of its great learning environment and business program, highly competitive golf team, outstanding coaches, and top-notch golf facilities," said Holmgren. "I felt that playing golf under coach Hankins and Holterhaus would give me the best opportunity to reach my full potential."

The Iowa men's golf program is looking to make its sixth-straight NCAA Regional appearance this spring.
